RICHLAND — DeLISA – Joan Mary (DeBiase), 72, Richland, passed away peacefully April 14, 2014, at Windber Hospice. Born Nov. 18, 1941, in Windber, daughter of Dominic and Mary (Kovalski) DeBiase. Preceded in death by parents and daughter, Jennifer DeLisa. Survived by husband, John “Jack” DeLisa; sons, Jeffrey (Dianne) and Jay (Theresa) DeLisa; and grandchildren, Samantha Hollern and Maria and Anthony DeLisa. Joan was a 1959 graduate of Richland High School, where she was valedictorian of her class, and a 1962 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing. Joan worked as an RN at Mercy Hospital for many years and retired from Windber Hospice in 1996 after working 15 years as a hospice nurse. On May 9, Joan and Jack would have celebrated their 50th anniversary of a devoted and loving marriage. Through the years, they very generously opened their home and provided dedicated care to their family and friends, including many cats and dogs, currently Belle and Phoebe. Joan loved to cook meals with her husband and enjoyed learning new recipes from TV food programs. She faithfully watched the David Letterman show, and cherished a recent trip to New York City, where she was in the audience for a taping. Her happiest moments, however, were spent in her home with her family, where love and laughter were abundant. Family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber, TOR Franciscans. Committal, SS. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery, Windber. In lieu of flowers, the family humbly requests memorial contributions be made to John DeLisa, 448 Devon Drive, Johnstown, Pa. 15904.
