JOHNSTOWN — BERKEY– Charles E., 87, Johnstown, died May 2, 2014, at Church of the Brethren Home. Born Jan. 11, 1927, in Central City, son of the late Albert and Iva May (Shull) Berkey. Preceded in death by children, Charles “Jackie” Berkey and Diane Berkey; brothers, Jim and Clarence Berkey; and sisters, Marion Schmitt and Iva Dean Weimer.  Survived by wife of 67 years, Anna Jean (Varner) Berkey, Johnstown; daughter, Debra (Alan) McCarty, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Michele (Eric) Ference, Salix, and Jaclyn (Barry) Ritko, Johnstown; great-grandson, Noah Ritko; sister, Blaudwin Millar, Philadelphia; and brother, Alvin Berkey, Jerome. World War II U.S. Army veteran, Technician, Fifth Grade, Company B, 46th Signal Heavy Construction Battalion. Retired supervisor for Penelec. Member of Belmont United Methodist Church. Shriner and member of Masonic Lodge No. 538. There will be no viewing.  Service will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, Pa. 15963.
