Frances Sgro

NORTHERN CAMBRIA — SGRO – Frances, 92, Northern Cambria, died July 1, 2013, at HAIDA Manor, Hastings. Born Feb. 15, 1921, daughter of Frank Sgro and Antonia (Spadaro) Sgro. Preceded in death by parents and brother, Peter. Survived by sisters, Catherine (John) Senita, Newport News, Va.; Beatrice McMullen, Northern Cambria; Dominica Limburg, Elma, N.Y.; and Mary Gaul, Indiana, Pa. Also survived by nine nieces and nephews. Retired from the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. (A&P) after more than 40 years of employment. She was a devoted member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. She served as a lector and was an instrumental volunteer at the annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Festival. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America and a supporter of Sisters of Saint Ann. She was a recipient of the Prince Gallitzin Cross Award in 2000. Fran was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend who loved to travel. Family and friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Long-Contres Funeral Home, Northern Cambria. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Father Lawrence L. Lacovic. Committal, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of Saint Ann, P.O. Box 328, Ebensburg, Pa. 15931.
