William L. Carstensen Jr.

SOUTHMONT — CARSTENSEN – William L. Jr. “Bill,” 88, Southmont, died Jan. 11, 2013, in Johnstown.  Born April 15, 1924, in Johns- town, son of  the late William L. Sr. and Rose (O'Donnell) Carstensen.   Survived by loving wife of 58 years, Paulette (Oursel); sons, Jean Pierre DeBernay, married to Louise; John “Jack” Hankinson, married to Debbie; Philippe Carstensen, married to Dawn; and Lawrence Carstensen, married to Winifred; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Janice Ray. Bill loved his family. He graduated from the former Southmont High School and Carnegie Tech, with a civil engineering degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force as second lieutenant, navigator, during World War II. Bill was one of the founding members and treasurer of the Johnstown Water Authority. He was a member of the BPOE 175, Sunnehanna Country Club, Associated General Contractors of America and Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday,  Jan. 16, 2013, the Very Rev. Mark S. Begly. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Mother Of Sorrows Catholic Church in his memory.  Condolences may be sent through www.ducafuneralhome.com.
