MURFREESBORO, TENN. — STUVER – Willard C. “Bud,” Murfreesboro, Tenn., passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2013. He retired to Murfreesboro six years ago after spending 30 years in South Florida. He was born and raised in the Riverside area of Johnstown. Preceded in death by father, Carl W. Stuver; mother, Doris Penrod Stuver; and sister, Carol Levergood. Survived by wife, Dianna Schmidt Stuver (also an alumni of Johnstown), now living in Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and sons, Gregory Scott Stuver, Miami, Fla.; David Keith Stuver, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Christian Stuver, Murfreesboro, Tenn. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Kirsten, David, Brendan, Lydia, Matthew, Micah and Hannah Stuver. Also surviving are his sisters, Karen Rodkey, Johnstown; and Joy Holsopple, Pottstown, Pa. Mr. Stuver graduated from Johnstown High School in 1961. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, and later on obtained a master’s degree from Nova University in Broward County, Fla. He was assistant director of Pittsburgh Allegheny County Crime Lab for 10 years. He also taught forensic science at the University of Pittsburgh and Indiana State University. In 1976, he was recruited to join Metro Dade County Crime Laboratory acting as supervisor in the serology section. He was responsible for growing the Serology/DNA unit of the laboratory into one of the major DNA laboratories in the United States. Through his leadership, DNA technology was introduced and implemented raising the standard and acceptance of DNA as critical courtroom evidence. Bud also was very active in animal rescue efforts in Murfreesboro, Tenn., which will continue through his wife and son. Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Blackman United Methodist Church, 4380 Manson Pike, Murfreesboro, Tenn. 37129, where a memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to animalrescuecorps.org.
