MOON TOWNSHIP — SHAPPEK – Mary, 98, Moon Township, formerly of St. Michael, died Aug. 14, 2013, at Sewickley Valley Hospital. Born Jan. 31, 1915, in Lloydell, daughter of Leopold and Helen (Ostanek) Kushlon. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Joseph M. Shappek, who died Jan. 26, 1990; sisters, Sophie Krupka and Amelia Kudrick; sons-in-law, Richard Novitski and R. Terry Rupert; and daughter-in-law, Wilma Parks. Survived by son, Richard, Front Royal, Va.; daughters, Gloria Novitski, Green Bay, Wis.; and Darlene Rupert, Moon Township;  grandchildren, John (Jennifer) Novitski, Maria Smith, Andrew (Leslie-Ann) Novitski, Richard Joseph Shappek Jr. and Suzann (Edouard) Robinson; and great-grandchildren, Barry, Madeline, Dominik, Joselyn, Jada, Amelia, Tressa and Makala. Faithful member of St. Margret Mary Catholic Church, Moon Township, and former member of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael. She was an active member of SNPJ Lodge 190, 1889 Hunting & Fishing Club and St. Michael American Legion Post 551 ladies auxiliary. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, where vigil for the deceased will be held Sunday evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Father Charles F. Bodziak. Committal, Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown. The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard A. Schollaert for his care and compassion.
