Wendell Luther Myers

SUMMERHILL — MYERS – Wendell Luther, 93, Summerhill, died peacefully May 15, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Feb. 10, 1921, in Summerhill, son of Leroy and Lula (Stiffler) Myers. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Robert and Lee Myers; and sister, Florene “Till” Hettle (Joseph). He would have celebrated a marriage of 72 years with his wife, Fern Louise (Berghane) Myers, on May 20.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Dorothy “Dottie,” wife of Robert Bromley, Summerhill; David Myers, Summerhill; and Joy, wife of Tom Crothers, Quarryville; grandchildren, Carol (Michael) Gwaltney and Mark (Carla) Bromley; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Wyatt, Grace and Vivian Bromley; and Reagan and Lucas Gwaltney; brother, Donald (Shirley), Fullerton, Calif.; sister-in-law, Lois Myers, Leroy, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a fireman before becoming a lifelong dairy farmer.  He attended Sandy Hill School and graduated from Wilmore High School in 1940, where he played basketball, soccer and six-man football. In 1955, he was named Outstanding Young Farmer of Cambria County. He was a committeeman for Farm Bureau and Agway, served on the board of Farmers Home Administration and was active in Cambria County Extension Association. In 1976, he traveled to farms in Europe with the People to People Tour. For many years, he had a milk route supplying local communities with home delivered milk. In later years, he sold milk at the farm to many families. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Summerhill, where he served on the church council. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, at St. John Lutheran Church, Summerhill, the Rev. Kevin McNamara, officiating. Interment, Pringle Hill Cemetery.
