Bernard J. Forgas

JOHNSTOWN — FORGAS – Bernard J. “Bernie,” 87, passed away Jan. 14, 2014. Born March 23, 1926, in Johnstown, son of Stephen and Catherine (Kroll) Forgas. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Edward Forgas; sisters Dorothy Klochak and Anna Marie Klochak. Survived by loving wife, Pearl, in which they spent 65 wonderful years together; and children, Lawrence, married to the former Delores Dziagwa; Theresa, married to Patrick Mulvehill; and Matthew Forgas, all of Johnstown. Also survived by grandchildren, Stephen, married to the former Sherri Hicks; Kristen Svencer; Allison, married to Michael Skovensky; Jason Mulvehill; Clair, married to Brad Gregorchik; Andrew Forgas; and Noah Forgas; and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Forgas; Kaitlyn, Dylan and Austin Svencer; Hannah, Olivia and Brianna Skovensky; Kristopher and Ayden Mulvehill; and Isaac Gregorchik. Brother of Helen LaHaye, California. Mr. Forgas retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was a letter carrier and supervisor. He served in the 5th Army 528th Field Artillery Division in Po Valley, Italy, from 1944 to 1946, where he received a Bronze Star. Bernie was an avid golfer and belonged to Pleasant Valley Golf Course and enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to golf with his wife and very good friends, the Kolegas for more than 23 years. He umpired for St. Therese Little League and was chairman for the church festivals for many years. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 4604, NARFE and longtime member of St. Therese Senior Choir. Bernie and Michael Musulin toured the Johnstown area singing for many groups, parties, nursing homes and weddings. A delight for all. Bernie was outstanding, admired and an inspiration to his family and was loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. At the request of the family, there will be no visitation or viewing, however all are welcome to attend funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Therese Catholic Church, the Rev. Bernard Karmonocky, OFM. Committal, Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Therese Church Building Fund in memory of Bernie Forgas. Condolences may be sent to
