JOHNSTOWN — BROOKS – L. Virginia, 88, Johnstown, died Jan. 14, 2014, at the Presbyterian Home of Johnstown. Born Feb. 22, 1925, in Johnstown, daughter of the late George R. and Flora (Stutzman) Gates. Preceded in death by children, Deborah Brooks, Barry Brooks and Barbara Brooks; brother, Alorance Gates; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Gates; and nephew, Allan Gates. Survived by daughter-in-law, Linda Brooks; niece, Bonnie Seidel; and nephews, Larry Gates and Gary Gates. Also survived by special friend, Melvin Davis and his caring family. Virginia worked in the administrative office of Penn Traffic and Bethlehem Steel Corp. She was a very active member of Calvary United Methodist Church and was a very caring and giving person. Friends will be received from noon until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 146 Chandler Ave., Pastor Wendy Henderson, officiating.
