WINDBER — BARRETT– Edwin W., 97, Windber, passed away Jan. 24, 2014, at Windber Hospice.  Born Nov. 7, 1916, in Seanor,  son of Samuel and Iva (Lumadue) Barrett.  Preceded in death by parents; sister, Regina Weaver; and brothers, Aldwin B. and Devere A. Survived by siblings, Charles L., married to the former Betty Marks, Windber;  Virginia D., widow of Joseph Sottile, Hagerstown, Md.; Lydia J., widow of George Figard, Windber; Allegra, wife of Daniel Gorzelsky, Johnstown;  and Ronald L., and wife, Carol, Radcliff, Ky.  Also numerous nieces and nephews and their families.  Devoted member of Berkey Church of the Brethren, Windber, where he shared his carpentry skills when the new church was built.  Ed served in the Army during World War II, then transferred to the Army Air Force, where he served as sergeant.  After he was honorably discharged from the military, he returned home and was employed as a coal miner for Berwind-White, where he retired.  After mining, he worked for Atlas Medical Equipment, where he retired again.  Member of UMWA and Windber American Legion Post 137. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, who will miss all the stories he told.  Special thanks to the staff of Wing 3 and Windber Hospice for their excellent care of Ed.  The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 10 until time of service at 11 a.m.  Tuesday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, Pastor Crissman officiating.  Interment, Forest Lawn Cemetery, Johnstown.  Military rites by Windber VFW Post 4795. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to his church or New Day Inc. in memory of Ed.
