JOHNSTOWN — HART – Rev. Sammie Lee Sr., 84, Johnstown, passed away July 17, 2013, in Johnstown. Born May 13, 1929, in Dawson, Ga., son of William Henry and Senora (Daniels) Hart. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Eva Bell (Crawford) Hart, who died in 2000; son, William Henry Hart; son-in-law, John Floyd Sr.; and 19 brothers and sisters. Survived by children, Calvin Hart; Sammie Lee Hart Jr., and wife, Patricia (Hardrick); Belinda Hart; and Richard Allen Hart, all of Johnstown; and Min. Dr. Dolores (Hart) Floyd, Albany, Ga.; grandchildren, Tonescha Sibley; HM2 (FMF) Hart III; Samuel L., and wife, Kelly (Wagner); Patrice Nicole Hart; HM3 Floyd Jr.; John Emmanuel; Davina Jonette Floyd; and Marcus Allen Hart; great-granddaughter, Mya Lee Hart; and godchildren, Dinah (Triplin) Smith and Keenah Thompson. Also survived by brother, Deacon Ulysses Hart, and wife, Bernice; sisters, Adelle (Hart) Thomas and Priscilla Hart, all of Albany, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Bertha Hart, Florida; and Min. Cessy Hart, Connecticut; daughter-in-law, Tiny (Cox) Hart, Johnstown; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Sammie came to Johnstown when he was 20 years old to work at Bethlehem Steel, where he retired after 30 years of service. He began barbering at 9 years old in Georgia and was a trade he applied all of his life, working from his home. He joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church when he first came to Johnstown, where he served in countless capacities, including Sunday school teacher. He served as a deacon of the church with his longtime friend the Rev. Andrew W. Tilly. The two were almost inseparable and served together for many years. Later in life, Sammie answered his calling and became a minister. Family and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where homegoing celebration will be held at noon Saturday, the Rev. Calvin McCray, officiating. Committal, Grandview Cemetery. Moskal-Reid Funeral Home, West End, is in charge of arrangements.
