Robert D. Myers

SOUTH FORK — MYERS – Robert D. “Bob,” 92, died June 30, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8. Born March 2, 1922, in Summerhill, son of Harry “Cooney” and Eva (Rose) Myers. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Vivian J. “Jeanne” (Sanders) Myers, who died Feb. 5, 2006; sister, Betty Susko; and brothers, Lester, Charles, Donald, Ronald, Harry and Paul Myers. Survived by children, Bobbe Jean, wife of Chris Stohon, South Fork; Jacque, wife of Ernie Martinage, South Fork; Alan, married to Tacey (Neri), South Fork; and Marc, married to Michelle (Wingard), Sidman; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Smay, Sidman; and Diana, wife of Calvin Cummings, Summerhill; brother, Devon “Arky,” Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; and very close special family friends, Mark and Matt Truscott. Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the men’s choir and attended men’s Bible class.  A U.S. Army combat veteran of World War II, having been awarded four Bronze Stars for his service as a corporal with Battery “B” 481st Anti-Aircraft Artillery in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland.  He was a graduate of the former South Fork High School, Class of 1940; member of St. Michael American Legion Post 551; and served as a shipping manager at Empire Foundations for many years. He was an avid sports enthusiast and devoted coach for numerous teams through the years. He valued helping people grow not only athletically but also helping instill in them a sense of integrity and character. He enjoyed playing bingo three nights a week, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates (beat ’em Bucs!!!), and was a fixture in the stands at local sporting events cheering on his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork. Viewing also from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, South Fork, the Rev. John Weaver, officiating. Interment, South Fork Cemetery. Military graveside service will be held by St. Michael American Legion Post 551. As an expression of sympathy, the   family suggests that memorial donations be made to South Fork Youth Little League, c/o Justin Myers, President, 426 Maple St., South Fork, Pa. 15956.
