George D. Foster Jr.

NEW FLORENCE — FOSTER – George D. Jr., 86, New Florence, went to be with the Lord at his home surrounded by his family July 14, 2014. Born July 29, 1927, in New Florence, son of the late George D. Sr. and Bessie (Ruffner) Foster. Also preceded in death by first wife, Mary L. “Mert” (Haynal) Foster. Survived by wife, Barbara (Murtland) Foster; children, Deborah, wife of Richard Wozniak, New Florence; Sandra, wife of Lamont McClure, Bethlehem; David Foster, married to Eileen, Columbia, Md.; and Ted Murtland, married to Lynn, Boswell; grandchildren, Lauren, wife of Kenneth Pearce, Minneapolis, Minn.; Evan Wozniak, Forest Lake, Minn.; Stephanie Foster, Columbia, Md.; Luke McClure, Bethlehem; and Jacob and Mackenzie Murtland and Tiffany and Jarrod Barile, all of Boswell; and faithful companion Annie. A U.S. Navy veteran, having served on USS San Pablo and in the Seabees during World War II and Korean War. Retired supervisor at Bethlehem Steel Corp. Johnstown. Life member of New Florence Volunteer Fire Company and past EMT and driver for Laurel Valley Ambulance Service. Member of New Florence Lions Club; Trinity Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and trustee; also attended Fort Palmer Evangelical Presbyterian Church; AACA; Laurel Highlands Antique Auto Club; Studebaker Car Club; Chicora Region Antique Car Club in South Carolina; New Florence VFW Post 7622; Hood-Vanatt American Legion Post 307; and New Florence AmVets. He graduated from Vale Tech in Blairsville to pursue his love of antique automobiles. Former Boy Scout Troop leader in the New Florence area. He enjoyed his frequent trips to Myrtle Beach, S.C. He made a honor flight from Myrtle Beach to Washington, D.C. George enjoyed spending time in his garage or helping someone in need. He loved being surrounded by his family. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier St., New Florence, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Barry Young, officiating. Interment, Fairfield Cemetery. Military rites by local veterans organizations. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in George’s name to either Trinity Presbyterian Church, P.O.
