SOMERSET — SHAFFER – Marie Alta, 97, Somerset, formerly of Friedens, died Jan. 30, 2014, at Siemon’s Lakeview Manor. Born July 23, 1916, in Lincoln Township, daughter of William A. and Minnie Mae (Hoffman) Emert. Preceded in death by parents; foster parents, John and Myra Hanks; husband, Harry Shaffer; brothers, Clarence, James, Charles and Richard Emert and Albert VonMoose; and foster brothers, Charles and Rev. Dr. Edgar Hanks. Survived by daughters, VerNae, married to Neil Rayman, Somerset; Gloria, married to John Wyatt, Tennessee; and Melea, married to David Pruskauer, Florida; grandchildren, Vonnie Hayes; Mark Rayman; George and James Dinsmore; and Sierra, Eric, Matthew and Dillan Pruskauer; and six great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of Somerset Township High School. She was employed by the former Walker Creamery, Hilltop Floral and 1XL Dairy Store. Member of Friedens Lutheran Church. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the time of her service at 11 a.m. Monday at Friedens Lutheran Church, the Rev. Edward V. DeVore, officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Friedens Lutheran Church, 131 S. Main St., Friedens, Pa. 15541.
