Mitch Spanovich

JOHNSTOWN — SPANOVICH – Mitch, 96, Johnstown, passed away Feb. 8, 2014. Born March 8, 1917, son of Nicholas and Katherine (Devich) Spanovich. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Milan, and wife, Milka (Kiurina); Stephen; and George; and niece, Dorothy, and husband, George Avramis. Survived by his sister, Helen, Johnstown; niece, Katherine Sanker; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and godchildren. Mitch retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp., where he worked as a machinist in the Gautier Division finishing and shipping department. He was an accomplished musician playing the piano and guitar in his family orchestra. He also was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed turkey hunting and time spent at his family hunting camp in Forest County. He was always kind and respectful and loved by all who knew him. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Moskal-Reid Funeral Home, West End, where Panachida service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a brief service at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, followed by funeral service at 10 a.m. at Christ the Saviour Cathedral, the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Robert Buczak and the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Frank P. Miloro, co-celebrants. Committal, Grandview Cemetery.
