Clair D. Bixel


TOPEKA, KAN. — BIXEL – Clair D., 95, Topeka, Kan., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at Midland Hospice House, Kansas. Born Feb. 14, 1919, at Rauchtown, Pa., son of George and Matilda Bixel. Clair spent his early years in Johnstown, having graduated from Ferndale High School in 1937. He was married on Oct. 13, 1943, to Kathryn E. Dawson, deceased. Clair was in the U.S. Army Air Corps from January 1942 to September 1947. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1947. Clair was in the Air Force more than 27 years, achieving the rank of chief master sergeant. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1965. He retired from duty in October of 1969. Clair is survived by his eight children, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and one sister. Preceded in death by his wife, a sister, a brother and one grandson.
