Sue M. (Berta) Novak

WINDBER — NOVAK – Sue M. (Berta), 93, life long resident of Railroad Street, Windber, passed away March 2, 2014, at LaurelWood Care Center, Johnstown. Born Sept. 27, 1920, in Windber, daughter of Matej “Matthew” and Mary (Smola) Berta. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Steve S. Novak; daughter, Carole Franchic; sisters, Elizabeth Bratter and Ann Ober; and brothers, Michael and Joseph Berta. Survived by these children: Janet, wife of Charles Balon, Windber; Steve L. Novak, married to the former Georget Vuckovich, Johnstown; and Jean, wife of Larry Sipe, Windber; grandchildren, Monica L. (Novak),  wife  of Greg Meagher;  Gregory S. Novak; Sherri (Franchic), wife of Randy Smay; Michelle (Franchic), wife of Paul Stohon; Marc Franchic, and wife, Deanna; special granddaughter, Erin Balon; great-grandchildren, Dillon Smay; Brennan, Ashley and Nathan Franchic; and Lydia and Eliza Meagher. Also survived by sister, Cecelia Kinkela, Sumner, Wash.; sister-in-law, Doris Berta, Montoursville; brother-in-law, Joseph Novak and wife,  Dorothy, Central City;  former son-in-law, Carl Franchic; former daughter-in-law, Elaine Novak;  and numerous nieces and nephews. Sue was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was a talented seamstress. She especially enjoyed preparing Christmas Eve dinner for her family. Member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Windber, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. George M. Gulash. Committal, church cemetery, Windber. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the William Kisiel Funeral Home, Windber, where vigil for the deceased will be held.
