JAMESTOWN — CABALA – John Joseph, 71, of 3066 Girts Road, Jamestown, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at UPMC Hamot Hospital, Erie, Pa. Born April 13, 1942, in Portage, son of the late Joseph and Mary Salamon Cabala. John was a 1960 graduate of Portage Area High School. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a PBX installer and repairman at Windstream for 41 years. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was a member of Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. He was an avid sports fan, following the Pittsburgh teams of the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. John enjoyed fishing on the Great Lakes, especially Lake Erie. He enjoyed working on electronics and computers. He also loved polka music and played bass guitar. Surviving are his wife, Madeleine Boreck Cabala; son, Michael Cabala, Jamestown; daughter, Valerie (James) Gembarosky, Amherst, N.Y.; brother, Frank Cabala, Summerhill; and sisters, Louise Bryson and Rosemary Cabala, both of Altoona. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family and visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
