Amy F. (Claar) Bender

LILLY — BENDER – Amy F. (Claar), 93, Lilly, passed away Dec. 19, 2011, at Altoona Regional Hospital. Born June 17, 1918, in Lilly, daughter of the late James Albert and Margaret (George) Claar. Preceded in death by loving husband, Emmett (Pete) Bender; infant son, James; twin granddaughters, Mary and Margaret Davies; grandson, Lucas Kristanc; sons-in-law, Lou Davies and Frank Kristanc; daughter-in-law, LeAnn Bender; and brothers and sisters. Devoted mother of Sylvia Davies, Lilly; Emmett, and wife, Anna Marie, Pittsburgh; Daniel R., and wife, Patsy, Pittsburgh; John, Lilly; Margaret (Peggy Barone), and husband, Sam, Hawaii; Mary Kristanc, Poland, Ohio; and David, and wife, Gina, Lilly. Also survived by 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Sister of Louella “Sis” Kaiser, Lewistown, Pa. Amy worked as a clerk in the post office for many years; was one of the original founders and members of Lilly-Washington Library; was a devoted member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Lilly; and was past president of WELCA. Friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Thomas F. Cloherty Funeral Home, Lilly. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Lilly, Pastor John J. Palko. Entombment, St. Francis Cemetery, Cresson. It is Amy’s request, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Roof Fund, 604 Cleveland St., Lilly, Pa. 15938.
