EBENSBURG — RUBISCH – George, 85, Ebensburg, passed away Oct. 5, 2012, at Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Feb. 23, 1927, in Colver, son of the late Charles and Mary (Sado) Rubish. George was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Stock) Rubisch; brothers, Charles, John and James Rubisch, sisters, Helen Rubisch and Mary (Rubisch) Balko; and son-in-law, Richard Gisler. George is survived by his children, Susan Gisler; Diane, and husband, Michael DeSalvo; Robert, and wife, Pam Rubisch; and Richard Rubisch; grandchildren, Amy Gisler; Rick, and wife, Natalie Gisler; Jessica, and husband, Edward Gerrity; Michael DeSalvo; Rikki, and husband, Chad Snyder; and Randy Rubisch; great-grandchildren, Avery Gisler, Maddie Gerrity, Colton Snyder and Morgan Snyder; brother, Joseph, and his wife, Jean Rubisch; and sister, Margaret, and her husband, Michael Balko. George also is survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen Rubisch; Jenny Rubisch; Shirley Stock; Ann Dolan; Robert, and wife, Jean Stock; and Leonard Stock, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and his very special close friend, Pat Wright. George graduated from the Ebensburg-Cambria High School in 1945, then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Italy with the 337th Field Artillery Battalion, 88th Division. George was a retiree of Bethlehem Steel Corp., where he worked for many years in the Bar, Rod and Wire Division. George was a long- time member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, and a proud member of Ebensburg American Legion Post 363 and Ebensburg VFW Post 4963, where he was the last known World War II Army veteran and the oldest member. George was an avid gardener, baker and cook, well-known for his homemade jellies, jams and other canned goods. George loved sports and was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and Pitt Panthers football team. George will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. Msgr. Arnold L. Gaus, celebrant. Committal to follow at Holy Name Mausoleum. Military rites by Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Bishop Carroll High School, Ebensburg.
