MADISON, VA. — VOLCHANSKY – George, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, in Madison, Va. He was born Jan. 12, 1926, son of Louis and Mary Volchansky of Conemaugh. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane Coates Volchansky; his son, Louis Robert Volchansky, and his wife, Sandra; and two grandchildren, Matthew Louis Volchansky and Caitlin Elizabeth Volchansky, Lorton, Va. He also is survived by brothers, Michael Volchansky, Manassas, Va., and Paul Volchansky, and wife, Lois, Albuquerque, N.M.; and three sisters, Virginia Ziner, and husband, Mike, Johnstown; Helen Guyan, and husband, Andy, Pensacola, Fla.; and Mary Ann Glass, and husband, Jack, Ashburn, Va.; and seven nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by brothers, John Volchansky and Charles Volchansky. George was a veteran of World War II and served in Patton’s Third Army. After discharge, he graduated in 1949 from James Madison University, then Madison College, and began a teaching career in Fairfax County. In 1958, he moved to Madison County where he taught school. He earned a master’s degree in 1962 and rose to become assistant superintendent of Madison County Public Schools. After retirement in 1981, he was appointed to the school board where he served for three terms. He then was elected to the Madison County Board of Supervisors where he served for two terms. George was an active member of Hebron Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of Linn Banks Lodge. His interests included travel, reading and history. Funeral service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Hebron Lutheran Church, 899 Blankenbaker Road, Madison, Va. 22727.
