JOHNSTOWN — ZEPKA – Bette Lou, 70, Johnstown, died peacefully Dec. 19, 2013, at home with her family at her side after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Born March 12, 1943, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Louis and Agnes (Freidwald) Rohde. Preceded in death by brother, Tom Rohde; and lifelong canine companion, Hannah. Survived by husband, Peter Zepka; son, Douglas Zepka, and wife, Elizabeth, Connecticut; daughter, Teresa Zepka, Johnstown; grandchildren, Douglas, Chad and Seth Zepka; sister, Carole Svopa, and husband, Robert, East Stroudsburg; brother, Jerry Rohde, and wife, Chris, Johnstown; and sister-in-law, Patricia Rohde, Johnstown. Bette was constantly giving and volunteering her time within the community. As a member of Cover Hill Fire Company ladies auxiliary, she worked turkey suppers, basket parties, cake socials and funeral dinners. For years, she was a hostess at the SS. Gregory & Barnabas Church fish fries and chicken barbecues. When she wasn’t volunteering, she was baking and sewing for friends throughout the community or watching her favorite Pittsburgh sports team. She also served on Conemaugh Township, Cambria County, election board. Friends received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 1521 Frankstown Road.
