Ernest J. Penatzer

NEW GERMANY — PENATZER– Ernest J., 84, New Germany, died peacefully at home Dec. 28, 2013, surrounded by loving family.  Born Nov. 20, 1929, in Summerhill, son of John J. and Kathryn (Koch) Penatzer.  Preceded in death by parents; infant son, Joseph; sisters, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Cline, Charlotte Kelly and Joanne Hillegas; and brothers, John Richard “Dick,” Raymond F. and Paul Penatzer.  Survived by loving wife of 57 years, Thelma (Patterson) Penatzer, whom he married Jan. 28, 1956; children, Jana, wife of William Peters, Pennsylvania Furnace; Terri, wife of Robert Feather, Windber; Timothy, married to Lori Deyarmin, Jeannette; Carol, wife of Donny Totten, Charlotte, N.C.; and Ronald, married to Traci Woodley, Saltsburg; grandchildren, Alyssa (Nathan), Caitlin (Michal), Joseph, Thomas, Kitty, George, Eden (Jon), Adria, Stephanie (Brandon), Jordan and Erika; great-grandchildren, Gabriela and Esme; brothers, Robert, married to Mary Lou Hoffman, Summerhill, and Martin, and wife, Erica, Mountain Ranch, Calif.; also numerous nieces, nephews and other beloved family and friends.  Ernie attended South Fork High, was a 1947 graduate of  Wilmore High School and studied at “Junior Pitt” Cypress Avenue Campus.  He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, having served four years active duty and four years with the 34th Infantry, Johnstown.  He retired from Bestform Foundations after 41 years of service.  A devout Catholic and member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Germany.  Lifetime member  of the St. Michael American Legion Post 551, where he served as chaplain for 30 years. Past county commander, American Legion. Life member of Catholic War Veterans, Post 1103. Member of Summerhill Social Club and Wilmore Sportsmans and honorary member of Summerhill Borough Volunteer Fire Company. Served as vice-president of the Cambria County American Legion Fair Board and also served on the Forest Hills Municipal Sewer Authority.  Ernie enjoyed sharing from his garden and  was an avid deer, spring gobbler and raccoon hunter.  His family will hold dear memories of a loving, kind and generous man who was full of life and always had a warm smile.  Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Father Leon Hont, OSB.  Committal, St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Germany.  Military graveside service by St. Michael American Legion Post 551.  As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the scholarship fund at St. Michael American Legion Post 551, P.O.
