YORK, PA. — SLOBOZIEN – Steve H., 87, York, entered into rest Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Country Meadows in Leader Heights. He was the husband of Ellen K. Slobozien for 63 years. Born Oct. 14, 1926, in Johnstown, son of the late James and Anna (Hunko) Slobozien. Member of St. Joseph Church, where he served as an usher. He was a teacher in the York City School District and coached football and basketball. He was the owner of Teachers Driving School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and earned a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and attended West Chester University. He had been recreation director for Spring Garden Township and was a member of American Legion, Red Lion Post, Hawk Gunning Club, Knights of Columbus Council 6353 and Victory AA. Steve is survived by his wife; children, Jim Slobozien, and wife, Cindy; Jan, and wife, Jessica; Jeff, and wife, Kitty; and Joan Kirk, and husband, Dr. Malcolm; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Pete Slobozien and Paul Slobozien; and sister, Barbara Lee Trexler. Preceded in death by sister, Roseanne Ferrence. Steve’s family wishes to thank the staff of Rest Haven-York, York Hospital, and especially Country Meadows Leader Heights for the excellent care provided to him during his illness. Visitation and service were held at St. Joseph Church, 2935 Kingston Road. Full military rites were presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard at the church. John W.
