CENTRAL CITY — FERGUSON – Robert E., 69, Central City, passed away Jan. 12, 2014, after a long illness. Born Nov. 27, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Robert M. and Edna E. (Griffith) Ferguson. Preceded in death by parents and adoptive parents, Harold and Martha (Eastwood) Frazier. Survived by wife, Carol-Jo (Terry) Ferguson, who was the love of his life; children, Robert G. Ferguson, North Carolina; James E. Ferguson, Pittsburgh; Kathleen Parks, Virginia; Robert J. Ferguson, Virginia; Sean Chapman, Virginia; and Joseph, Kevin and Timothy Calverley, all of Central City; and grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas and Emily Ferguson; Jessee, Hannah and Cara Ferguson; Briana and Gabriele Chapman; and Tyler Calverley. Brother of John T. Mello, Virginia. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a Navy SEAL with 27 years of service, having been known as “Mad Dog.” While in the Navy, he also worked with NASA and the U.S. Air Force as a trainer. He was highly decorated. He served as a skipper in the Admirals CINC Fleet as a chief boatswain mate. He was stationed at the U.S. Naval Station, Norfolk, Va. After retiring from the service, he worked 15 years in building maintenance. He was very active in Scouting, having served as a Scout leader in T-P 303-351-370. His hobbies were Scouting, camping, hunting and fishing. He found peace in nature. He lived his life for God, family, duty and honor of his country. Fourth Degree member of and present Grand Knight for Light of Christ Council Knights of Columbus, Central City and Johnstown. Member of Central City American Legion. Friends received from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Sunshine Avenue, Central City, Father Joseph Maurizio, where military honors will be held following the funeral Mass. Bob was a true friend to anyone he came in contact with.
