Charles C. McElwee

STRONGSTOWN — McELWEE – Charles C., 82, Strongstown, died June 9, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. Born Nov. 2, 1930, in Bolivar, son of the late Jessie and Josephine (McAdams) McElwee. Also preceded in death by wife, Ella (McLain) McElwee; son, Robert McElwee; granddaughters, Tammy and Macie Kowchuck; brother, Kenneth “Bud” McElwee; and sisters, Delores Darlene Fleming and Bernice Gamble. Survived by daughters, Carol Reese, and Barbara Hockenberry, and husband, Greg, both Indiana; son, Steven Moore, and fiancee, Julie Fields, Penn Run; grandchildren, Michelle Shaw, and husband, Danny, Kittanning; Todd Kowchuck, Falls Church, Va.; and Matthew Hockenberry, Rochester, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Amber Brendlinger, and husband, Kalen; Bryanna Pounds; Halie Breznai; Morgan and Karlie Patterson; and Skylar Garrett; and sisters, Ethel Jackson, Derry; Louise McElwee, Ligonier; Alma Gay Sapp, Charleroi. Family was of the upmost importance to Charles. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served on the USS Samuel B. Roberts and USS Mount Olympus. Retired employee of Bethlehem Steel Corp. with 33 years of service.  He enjoyed working on cars, tinkering and NASCAR. He enjoyed the company of his numerous friends.  The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Heritage Home Health Agency and especially to Jeanne Clark, Tish Timko and Connie Zagurskie for all the special care and love. Friends received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home, 392 E. Philadelphia St., Armagh.
