JOHNSTOWN — HART – James D. “J.D.,” 63, Johnstown, passed away unexpectedly at 9:05 p.m. Sunday evening, May 5, 2013, in Fairfax, Va. Born July 9, 1949, and was the beloved son of Allan P. and Mary Ann Farrell Hart. He was raised in Sandy Lake, Pa., and lived in Grove City, Pa., many years before moving to Johnstown. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1967 and from Grove City College in 1971, where he majored in mechanical engineering. He had been previously employed for 25 years by Greenville Steel Car Co. which eventually was acquisitioned by Trinity Industries in Greenville, Pa., as plant and design engineer. He also worked at Transco Railway Products Inc. in Bucyrus, Ohio, and most recently as vice president of Global Technology for Freight Car America Corp. of Johnstown. He also held various positions in national railroad committees and had numerous patents relating to the railroad industry. Jim was of the Episcopal faith and leaves behind his parents; children, Jennifer Dawn Hart-Hanna, and husband, Patrick, Harrisville, Pa.; Angela Kaye Hart, also of Harrisville; and Thomas James Hart, Middleburg Heights, Ohio; and sisters, Janet L. Hart, Sandy Lake; and Barbara J. Cummings, and husband, Richard, Fairfax, Va. The children say of their father that “our dad was an honest, dependable and caring man; an exceptional father and excellent role model. He loved reading, gardening and could fix just about anything.” He worked in the engineering field for years and was very well liked by all his colleagues and co-workers. He always had a smile and a joke for everyone he met. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Martin and Lorraine Farrell and Harry and Bertha Hart, all of Sandy Lake. There will be no viewing hours or funeral but a memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
