KINGSTON, TENN. — HIRUPSKY – Rina, 94, Kingston, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord Aug. 29, 2010, at Parkwest Hospital, Knoxville, Tenn. Born Aug. 20, 1916, as Rina Castagnini, in the town of Pietrasanta located in the Tuscany Region of Italy. She was raised in a family of three brothers and one sister. Her brother, Alfio Castagnini, still resides in Tonfono, Italy, along with many other family members. Rina attended The Milan International School of Design in Viareggio, Italy, where she graduated with a degree as a teacher of pattern making, fashion design and master seamstress. Rina met her husband, Paul, during World War II. He was an American soldier assigned to the 684th Ord. Ammo. Co. of the 5th Army. After the war was over, she came to America through Ellis Island on March 17, 1947. Paul and Rina were married June 7, 1947, in Johnstown. They were married 49 years. Catherine Drosjack, her only daughter, resides in Kingston with her husband, Walt. Rina’s passion for sewing led her to design costumes for Kelly’s Dance Studio, Johnstown, which was run by Gene Kelly’s sister, Louise and Sharon’s Dance Studio. Rina also was the designer in making costumes and gowns for the Junior Miss Pageant in Pennsylvania. In their spare time, Paul and Rina loved to travel to Italy to spend time with family. Prior to moving to Tennessee in 2008, Rina lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Richland, Wash., for six years. Rina continued to use her gifts of sewing, crocheting and knitting to bless others. She has taken pleasure in calling Victorian Square Assisted Living her home since November 2009. Friends received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moskal & Kennedy Colonial Funeral Home, Ohio Street and Highland Avenue. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Church, Father Matthew A. Reese, celebrant. Interment, Grandview Cemetery.
