Ruth Jackson


JOHNSTOWN — JACKSON – Ruth, 91, Johnstown, (family matriarch), went to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. Born March 1, 1922, in Sumter, S.C., daughter of the late Frank and Anna Taylor. Preceded by her beloved husband of 50 years, Havard Jackson, who passed in 1989; daughter, Patricia Ann; and brother James Taylor. Survived by her children, Yvonne Cooper, Memphis, Tenn.; Havard R.F. Jackson (Yolanda), Suffolk, Va.; Roberta Harris, Johnstown; Beatrice Jackson, Roselle, N.J.; JoAnn Jackson, Johnstown; and Bernard Kevin Jackson, and special friend, Arrispa, Hampton, Va.; sister-in-law, Alice Dorothy Taylor, Johnstown. She also leaves grandchildren, Brian, Mark, Nichol, Monique, Heather, Sharon, Angel, Kevin Michael, Apryle, Amber, Alexandria and Christiane; 15 great-grandchildren; two special grandpets; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; and special friends, Edith Gordon, Doris Haselrig, Claudia Jones, Doris Mickens and Bernice Coleman, Palmdale, Calif. Ruth was a 1940 honor graduate of Conemaugh High School. She has been an active, faithful member of Mount Sinai Institutional Baptist Church for more than 65 years. Well respected by her church and community, Ms. Ruth served in many capacities; as president of Hospitality Ministry, Praise and Worship Team; and member of the senior and concert choirs, Kitchen Ministry, and a dedicated Bible study student. Member of Elizabeth Lindsay Davis Club and a founding member of Local Women in NAACP (WIN). She served on the executive board of NAACP for more than 20 years. She was the recipient of many awards and humanitarian recognition’s. Ruth was an exceptional homemaker with a doctorate degree in raising, teaching and encouraging her children. We will miss her dearly as memories of her live in the hearts of all those she has touched. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Sinai Institutional Baptist Church, where homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Julius Porcher, officiant. Interment following at Forest Lawn. The family is being served by Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc. (
