Leo L. Merva

CRESSON — MERVA – Leo L., 82, Cresson, died April 8, 2013, at Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. Born Dec. 5, 1930, in Cassandra, son of the late Joseph and Mary Ann (Benjack) Merva. Preceded in death by three brothers. Survived by wife, Mary (Bowtell); children, Lee Merva (Karen), Cresson; Dawn Sallee (Larry), Fishers, Ind.; Melody Merva (Bob), Falling Waters, W.Va.; and Joseph Merva, Altoona; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Andrew, Portage. Also survived by his extended family at the VA Medical Center. He retired after 21 years of service with the U.S. Army, having served one tour of duty during the Korean War, and three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was last employed and retired from Frye’s Metal, Altoona. Member of Cresson American Legion, Post 238. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, the Rev. David Roesch. Military graveside rites by Cresson American Legion, Sankertown VFW and other local veteran organizations. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Fisher House Foundation in memory of Leo.
