MARYLAND — LAIRD – Margaret (Crino), 89, a longtime resident of Johnstown, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Kline Hospice House, Maryland, where she stayed the last two days of her life. She was married to Robert R. Laird who preceded her in death seven weeks ago on Dec. 13, 2012, after 63 years of marriage. Her love showed through her giving of her time and compassion for others. She was well-known for her smile and laughter. She was born in Jamestown, N.Y., to the late Tony S. and Mary (Campo) Crino. She and her husband moved to New Market, Md., to be with their son in 2005. Mrs. Laird was employed by Bestform until her retirement. An active member of National Fraternal Society of the Deaf, Division 85, Pennsylvania Society for the Advancement of the Deaf and Johnstown Association of the Deaf. Longtime member of Central Deaf Senior Citizens and Western Pennsylvania Deaf Citizens. She also was involved with Mid-Week Ladies Circle and was one of the two remaining members of the Circle. Survived by her children, Eddy, New Market, Md.; Joan (Doug), Walkersville, Md.; and Herman, Allison Park, Pa.; and grandchildren, Matthew, Annalee, Marty and Ashley. Preceded in death by sisters, Catherine (Cappucci) and Josephine (Tilley); and brothers, Frank and Tony (Crino). Memorial service will be held sometime in the spring of 2013 in Johnstown. Because of her love for sewing and making crafts, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to New England Homes for the Deaf, “The Margaret (Crino) Laird Memorial Fund,” which will be used to purchase crafts supplies for activities with dementia residents, at 154-160 Water St., Danvers, Mass. 01923, or via its website at www.nehd.org.
