EBENSBURG — FINKLE – Joan (Numer), 82, Ebensburg, formerly of Huntingdon, died Nov. 5, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Oct. 16, 1930, in Huntingdon, daughter of the late Grant C. and Ethel W. (Young) Numer. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by brother, Jack; and husband, Robert E. Finkle, whom she married in July of 1950 in Huntingdon. Survived by sons, Michael J. (Pam Gannon) Finkle and R. Scott (Brenda Howe) Finkle; and daughter, Rebecca A. (Charles) Koren. Joan was grandmother to Amy, Julie and Chrissy Koren, and Andrew and Kathleen Flanagan. Also survived by cousin and best friend, Mart Christopher; along with many special extended family members: Frank and Joe Koren, Mike and Mary Koren, Jane and Linda Numer and Penny Hurley, and so many others who loved her and will miss her very much. Joan graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1948. She worked for many years at Juniata College and eventually retired from the Department of Public Welfare in 1988. She then moved to Pittsburgh to become a full-time grandmother, angel and “Nan” for her three granddaughters, a job she embraced and fulfilled in the most wonderful way imagined. She moved to Ebensburg with the Koren family in 1990 and volunteered as a lunch lady for many years at Holy Name School. Nan gave inspiration and peace to all who came into her life. She was an especially good listener with a kind ear and word for all her friends and family. She enjoyed her bingo games, political discussions and yards sales with her family. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, the Rev. Geno Bartoletti, officiating. Interment, Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. A devoted lover of all animals, Joan had a special love for Itsy, Casey, Dakin, Erin, Maggie, Mr. Fezziwig and Bryce. It was Nan’s wish to have donations in her memory sent to the Huntingdon or Cambria County Humane Society.
