PORTAGE — SHAFFER – Paul C. Jr., “Buzz,” 84, Portage, died July 27, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Feb. 14, 1929, in Hooversville, son of Paul Sr. and Mary (Sloan) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Roseann (Canavan) Shaffer; son, Thomas “Bub” Shaffer; brothers, Raymond and Dale Shaffer; and sister, Judy Moore. Survived by children, Rhoda, wife of Bill Gordon, Salix; Paul “Babe” Shaffer III, married to former Kathy Probert, Portage; Jim Shaffer, married to former Carol McCabe, Martindale; Colette “Cakie,” wife of Rege McCool, Portage; John “Bo,” married to former Lori Vello, and Allen “Bouga” Shaffer, married to former Cindy Inman, both of Latrobe; Richard “Ricko” Shaffer, married to former Annette Scoran, Portage; Glynnis “Glinnie,” wife of Bob Sherry, Ashville; and Heather Ann “Heathie,” wife of John Pudliner, Johnstown. He will be sadly missed by his 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Brother of Gladys Rosa, and Jean, wife of Richard Griffith, both of Johnstown; Anna Mae Vallee, Pittsburgh; William Shaffer, and wife, Ruth, Golden, N.Y.; Laverne, wife of Fred DePalma, Buffalo, N.Y.; James Shaffer, and wife, Bonnie, Cheektowaga, N.Y.; Edward Shaffer, and wife, Sherry, Portage;  Phyllis, wife of Frank Lombardo, Richland; and Lawrence Shaffer, and wife, Roxanne, Portage. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Ken Moore and sister-in-law, Helene Shaffer. Retired coal miner from Beth Energy Mine No. 32. Founder and original owner of Shaffer Tree Service. Buzz was an avid hunter and gardener who shared an abundance of vegetables with family and friends. Charter member of “The Dog House” and Shaffer Hunting Camp. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Timothy Dietrich officiating. Committal, St. Bartholomew Cemetery, Wilmore.
