Harold W. Thacker Jr.

ALTOONA — THACKER – Harold W. Jr., 68, Altoona, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, Oct. 8, 2013, at UPMC Altoona. Born July 13, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio, son of Harold W. Sr. and Amy (Lewis) Thacker. He married Barbara A. Gates on March 7, 1992, in Flinton. Surviving are his wife; daughter, Wendy Custer, Windber; stepsons, Brandon (Ronda) Hescox and Brent (Jessica) Hescox, both of Bellwood; stepdaughter, Bethany (Shane) Pepe, Slatington; grandchildren, Brady, Matthew and Alexa Thacker; Brooke and Bryson Hescox; Jordan Hescox; expectant grandson, Dylan Hescox; and Michael and Makayla Pepe; brother, John (Marilyn), Marietta, Ga.; and sisters, Mary Thacker and Shirley (Donald) Allen, both of Ohio; and Starla (Randy) Oates, Tennessee. Preceded in death by son, David; and grandson, Tyler. Harold was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era. Member of Abundant Life Assembly of God, Altoona, where he volunteered at the church food bank. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, and from 10 until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, Pastor Walter Smith, officiating. Interment, Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. Contributions in Harold’s memory may be made to the family.
