Virgil W. Good

DAVIDSVILLE — GOOD – Virgil W. , 91, Davidsville, died Aug. 21, 2013, at  Memorial Medical Center. Born Feb. 18, 1922, in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, son of Clyde Sr. and Ada (Blough) Good. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Robert, Paul and Clyde Jr;, brothers-in-law, Blaine Shaffer, and Frederick Kring, and his wife, Hilda (Adam) Kring; and sister-in-law, Emma (Petet) Good. Survived by wife of 64 years, Betty J. (Kring) Good; daughter, Beth Good, married to Mark Weakland, Hollsopple; son, David, married to Robin (Stern), Davidsville; and grandchildren, Morgan and Aaron Good. Brother of Lester Good, married to Delores (Yurkovich), Richland; Betty Shaffer, Richland; Marjorie, married to Donald Hoffman, Salix; and Carl Good, married to Nancy (Leader), Bedford. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Jean (Deffenbaugh) Good, Johnstown; Yvonne “Mickey” (Buzzard) Good, Jerome; and Nancy (Kring), married to James Naugle, Davidsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School.  U.S. Navy Seabee veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater in Guadalcanal, Treasury Islands, and Okinawa.  Retired building superintendent for Penn Traffic Co. and had worked for many years prior to that at Sanitary Dairy Co.  After retirement, he served on the boards of Conemaugh Township EMS, Laurel View Village and Conemaugh Township Historical Society.   He also served as president and was an active member of the Conemaugh Township Lions Club for many years.  A member of St. David’s Lutheran Church, Davidsville, where he was proud to have sung in the choir for more than 50 years.  He and his wife, Betty, went on mission trips to Africa, India and South America, helping to build hospitals and schools for underprivileged people.  At home, Virgil was a beekeeper and gardener and loved fishing and fixing anything mechanical.  He also was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville.  Viewing also from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at St. David’s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. N. Gregory VanDyke presiding.  Interment, Maple Spring Cemetery, Jerome, with military rites by Somerset County Honor Guard.  Donations in Virgil’s memory may be sent to Conemaugh Township EMS, P.O.
