SIDMAN — SMITH – Raymond Christopher “Grun” and “Groundhog,” 53, Sidman, died suddenly Sept. 8, 2013, at home. Born Jan. 11, 1960, in Johnstown, the beloved son of George William and Mary Jane (Fuzie) Smith. Preceded in death by his mother, who died Dec. 5, 1996; and numerous aunts and uncles. Survived by his loving father, Bill, Sidman; sister, Shirley Louise, wife of Robert D. Carl, Dunlo; and brother, William “B.J.” Smith, and wife, Joan (Ferrier), Sidman. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Mary Jane (Carl), wife of Edward Sherman; Irene Carl; Robert W. Carl; and Brett J. Smith, Esq.; special nephew, Christopher E. Smith; and great-nephew, Daniel R. Moore. In July of 1969, Chris was severely injured after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle. After numerous surgeries and extensive rehabilitation, and through the hard work of his parents and siblings, Chris regained the ability to walk and talk. He graduated from Forest Hills High School, Class of 1978. He loved to go to Sheetz for coffee and scratch-off lottery tickets. He had a great sense of humor that brought joy to the lives of the many people who knew him. Our family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of the Sheetz in Sidman for the care and attention they showed Chris for many years. Although he will be sorely missed, we know Chris is happy to be reunited with his mom. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, where vigil for the deceased will be held Tuesday afternoon. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael, by Father Charles F. Bodziak. Committal, St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Germany.
