PORTAGE — DRINOSKY – Eugene, 80, Portage, entered eternal rest April 21, 2014, peacefully at home. Born Sept. 18, 1933, in Portage, son of the John and Katherine (Churry) Drinosky. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Delores (Schaffranek) Drinosky; sister, Bonnie Drinosky; grandson, Jude Moore; and son-in-law, Dr. William Hauger. Survived by, loving daughters, Roxane Hauger, Johnstown; and Leora Benjack and Justine Moore, both of Portage. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Tracy, Jessica, Dara, Tawne, Robert, Geno and Justin; and great-grandchildren, Coltan, Nathan, Braven, Nerye and Nyjah. Brother of Janet Morris, Joan Haschak and Cheryl Merchant. Gene was the last of the male linage of the Drinosky family. He served as a member of the Army in the Korean War. He was a high school graduate of Portage Area High School. He received a bachelor of science degree from St. Francis University. Member of the board of directors for Portage Sewer Authority. He was a retired math and science schoolteacher of the Forest Hills School District. After retirement, he enjoyed watching sports, especially football. He was a dedicated Steelers fan. He also enjoyed yard work and helping out his neighbors. A neighbor fondly named him the “mayor” of Portage. Gene was loyal, quick-witted, and had a dry sense of humor. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Gene was a special person who was loved and will be missed by friends and especially his family. He was the go-to person in the family for his advice, knowledge and wisdom. Friends received from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Serenko- Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Father Andrew Draper, TOR, celebrant. Entombment, Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Military funeral rites by Portage Ritual Team.
