OCALA, FLA. — CANNARELLA – Joseph, Ocala, Fla., was born Nov. 3, 1917, in Johnstown, and passed away peacefully March 1, 2013. Son of Salvatore and Marianna Cannarella. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Charles; first wife, Sarah Jane (Coco); and second wife, Elizabeth (Tondoro). Survived by wife, Leona (Zimmerman-Phillips), Ocala, Fla.; and brother, Angelo Cannarella, Palmerton, Pa. He also leaves many nephews and nieces, whom he adored. During World War II, he served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater. Having flown 27 combat missions, he survived three crash landings of his B-26 aircraft. He was employed by U.S. Steel Corp. for many years. Golf was his passion; he won a flight championship in 1959 at Berkeley Hills Golf Course. He was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Moxham and was a volunteer tax preparer in Johnstown prior to relocating to Ocala in 2001. Interment will be with military honors at National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Ave., Ocala, Fla. 34474.
