Donald F. "Sham" McLaughlin

JOHNSTOWN — McLAUGHLIN – Donald F. “Sham,” 78, Johnstown, departed this world Jan. 9, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center. Born July 16, 1932, Patton, Frenchtown, son of William F. and Edith (Colberg) McLaughlin. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Jean Nardin. Survived by wife, Marie (Potter); son, Gregory, married to Brenda (Harper), Johnstown; daughter, Maureen (McLaughlin) Dufresne, Darnestown, Md.; son, Patrick, married to Cindy (Wentz), Salix; son, Brad, married to Kim (Shockey), Somerset; and daughter, Erin, married to Dale Mishler, Johnstown. Donald also is survived by 12 grandchildren, whom he loved and adored, Meghan (McLaughlin) Stahl-Skinner; Morghan McLaughlin; Keegan, Conlan and Mackenzie Dufresne; Brandon and Maura McLaughlin; Chelsa and Madison McLaughlin; and Eden, Meredith and Adeline Mishler; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Betty, married to Ned Weaver, Littletown, Colo.; and Carol, married to John Letizia, Vinco; also numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, whom he so dearly loved. Donald served with the 628th Tank Battalion of the 28th Infantry Division in Germany during the Korean War. He was a prominent Johnstown business owner, having been the president and owner of Del Boring Tire Service Inc. and McLaughlin’s Tire Service Inc. Donald was active in numerous regional and national tire dealer associations and JARI. In his latter years, Donald was an active fundraiser for the Richland girls volleyball and high school football boosters. Donald worked closely with Duke University Center for Genetic Research in their successful effort to identify the gene for Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT) Type 2 A and continued to raise CMT awareness by supporting the CMT Association. Donald helped start the CMT clinic at John P. Murtha Neuroscience Center, and was a founding member of Johnstown CMT Foundation. Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Father David Peles. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Donald’s memory to Charcot Marie Tooth Foundation, c/o Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, 116 Market St., Johnstown, Pa. 15901.
