Gene D. Berkebile Sr.

HOOVERSVILLE — BERKEBILE –  Gene D. Sr., “Butch,” 70, Hooversville, died May 1, 2014, at home. Born Nov. 11, 1943, in Hooversville, son of Kenneth Paul and Josephine (Berkebile) Berkebile.  Preceded in death by parents and brother, Terry. Survived by children, Gene Jr., married to the former Bonnie Pringle, St. Michael, and Shannon, married to Richard May, Summerhill; grandchildren, Tyler, Breanna, Kenneth and Alyssabeth Berkebile, and Michael, Mathew, Makayla and Makenna May; and stepgrandchildren, Derrick and Alyssa May. Brother of DeWayne “Bum” (Dolores) Berkebile, Hooversville; Wallace Berkebile, Stoystown; and Denise (Dave) Laugerman, York. Retired from Daniel Shaffers Inc., Hooversville, with more than 40 years’ service. Member of Hooversville Fire Company Fire Police, Somerset County Fire Police Association and Pennsylvania State Fire Police Association.  Former member of Krings Fire Company.  He enjoyed hunting, spending time with his grandchildren and old western movies, especially John Wayne. Family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Hooversville, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, The Rev. Gerald L. Myers, officiating.  Interment, P.O.S. of A. Cemetery, Hooversville.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Hooversville VFD, P.O. Box 14, Hooversville, Pa. 15936. (
