JOHNSTOWN — BENNESE – Louis A., 89,  Johnstown, died Jan. 11, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Nov. 16, 1923, in Johns- town, son of the late John and Antoinette (Zagarino) Bennese. Preceded in death by brother, Tony Bennese, and brother-in-law, Paul Azzarella. Survived by wife, Janet R. (Vizzini) Bennese; children, Mary Gamble, and husband, Lindon, New Florence, and their children, Lindon Gamble, and his son, Trestyn; Nicole Englert, and her husband, Justin, and their children, Chase and Allison; Jane Bennese, Johnstown; Raymond Bennese, Mechanicsburg, and his children, Kristian, Cheyenne and Noelle; Dolores Kolesar, and husband, George, Jerome; Jean Cotchen, Johnstown, and sons, Jeffrey and Jessey; Karen Wagner, and husband, Kevin, Carlisle, and son, Kevin Wagner Jr.; and Michael Bennese, and wife, Christine, Mechanicsburg, and children, Erin and Andy; brother, Joseph Bennese, and wife, Elvira, Clearfield; and sister, Kay Azzarella, Johnstown; as well as several nieces and nephews. Member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he received a Bronze Star, and the Ardennes Central Europe Rhineland. He was retired director of Johnstown Elementary Schools, and after his retirement, he became principal at the West End Catholic School for 14 more years. Friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass at noon Monday at  St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, the Rev. Angelo Patti, celebrant. Interment, St. Anthony Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by members of Conemaugh Valley Detachment  287 Marine Corps League. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Andrew School or to St. Andrew Food Pantry.
