PORTAGE — MILLER – James Arthur, 85, Portage, died Jan. 21, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Sept. 8, 1927, in Wilmore, son of Raymond A. and Margaret (Larson) Miller. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Inez Miller; and brothers, Joseph and Paul. Survived by wife of 53 years, Helen C. (Wess) Miller, whom he married April 18, 1959; son, James Chris, married to Patty Artega, Portage; daughters, Clara Ann, wife of Allen Brummert, Houston, Texas; and Margaret Jennifer, wife of James Finn, Ebensburg; 10 grandchildren; and twin sister, Margaret J. “Jean” Adams, Blue Knob. James graduated from Wilmore High School, Class of 1946, and served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He used the G.I. Bill to attend welding and sheet metal school at Cochran High School, Johnstown. He was a welder for the Bethlehem Steel Car Shop from 1955 to 1962, before working for Bethlehem Mines, Ebensburg, from 1962 until his retirement in 1990. He was a very active member of Wilmore United Methodist Church and served on many of their committees, including administrative board, pastor parish relations committee and was a trustee. He also was a member of Portage American Legion Post 430. Jim enjoyed fishing, fly tying, hunting and had a retail Bait and Tackle Shop. He was very fond of his children and his grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilmore United Methodist Church by Rev. Dennis Zimmerman. Military service will be held at the church by Portage Veterans Ritual Team. Interment, Wilmore United Brethren Cemetery. (
