SOMERSET — HEMMINGER – Mary Jane (Barna), 83, Somerset, formerly of Johnstown, died April 24, 2013, in Sebring, Fla. Born Feb. 7, 1930, in Johnstown, daughter of the late John and Mary Barna. Preceded in death by husband, Bill; brother, John, sisters, Sabina and Kathryn; and daughter, Lynn Fiscus; also grandson-in-law, Eric Knauss. She was the last surviving member of the John Barna family. Survived by son, David (Linda) Houston, Texas; daughter, Susan (John) Tarasenkov, Pittsburgh; son, Darren (Marcy) Waterford, Va.; son-in-law, Charles Fiscus; and stepmother, Ruth Hemminger. Also survived by grandchildren, Tanya Knauss, Sonya (Jason) Fletcher, Pat and Colin Hemminger, Eva Lenz, Grete (Matt) Gridley, Jayne Fiscus, Zachary and Jacob Tarasenkov and Keely Hemminger; many cousins; and a niece and nephew. She was a 1948 graduate of Greater Johnstown High School. Jane was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Geistown, for 40 years. She was employed by Sears Roebuck Co. for more than 30 years, first in the credit office and then as a decorator until her retirement in 1995. She was a very active woman her entire life and made new friends wherever she went. While raising four children, she managed a part time job, enjoyed competitive tennis, swimming, gardening, oil painting, sculpting and arts and crafts. She enjoyed traveling, watching the Steelers, being a member of the Red Hat Society and loved playing cards. Jane thoroughly enjoyed her family and friends and wintering in Florida. A snowbird to the end! Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 2310 Bedford St., Johnstown, Father David S. Peles, pastor. Committal, Richland Cemetery Mausoleum.
