BOWERS - Esther P., 86, of Vinco, passed away Nov. 19, 2005, at Miner's Medical Center, Hastings, after an extended illness. Born April 23, 1919, in East Conemaugh, daughter of George G. and Lillie (Wertz) Bowers. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clarence and George; and sisters, Katheryn Novitsky and Jane Ray. Survived by her nieces, Beverly, wife of Robert Fetsik, Jackson Township, and Kay Novitsky, Conemaugh. Also survived by a great-niece, Wendy Fetsik Jackson, Chicago, and a great-nephew, Robert T. Fetsik, Vinco. Esther was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Conemaugh, and was a 1938 graduate of East Conemaugh High School. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Ed Wagner officiating. Interment will take place at Headricks Union Cemetery.

BRUNO - Sara "Sally" (Sperry), 87, of Second Street, Nanty Glo, died Nov. 18, 2005, at home. Born July 26, 1918, in Greenwich, daughter of the late John Palmer and Celia Elizabeth (Roberts) Sperry. Preceded in death by husband, Joseph Francis Bruno, and nephew, Thomas Fulmer. Survived by brother, Rhuel, and wife, Audrey Sperry, Niceville, Fla.; and nieces and nephews: Debbie (Cliff) Kelley; Jeff and Kevin Sperry; Karen (Bill) Holloway; Jay Sperry; Gary (Deb) Fulmer; and Robert Fulmer. Also survived by sister-in-law, Rose (Bruno) Fulmer. Member of Nanty Glo United Methodist Church. She had been retired from the Cambria County Courthouse, where she had been a clerk for 25 years. Sally was an avid reader and loved the arts. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Rose was active in politics and was elected Judge of Elections for Jackson Township #1 in the November election. She also served as Inspector of Elections and many years as Democratic Committeewoman. Rose was president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary 7605; past president of VFW District 26 Ladies Auxiliary; past Color Bearer at Pennsylvania State VFW Ladies Auxiliary; and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. Rose was very active in the Nanty Glo #516 Women of the Moose. She was the first woman in the history of the Nanty Glo Moose to earn her College of Regent Degree, Red Stole and Star Recorder Degree. She also earned her academy of Friendship Degree. Rose organized the annual Twin Rocks Halloween parade and kids' treats for many years. She helped to host the annual Christmas party at Scotland School for the VFW. She volunteered at the James Van Zandt Veterans Hospital hosting bingo games for veterans. Rose never missed a Memorial Day or Veterans Day parade. Rose was very active in her community and will be sadly missed by family, friends and local organizations. Walter was a talented carpenter and enjoyed gardening. SARVER - Mr. Lawrence H. Jr., age 63, of Whitetail Lane, Manns Choice, Pa., died at 2 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital, Snake Spring Township, Pa. Mr. Sarver was born in Juniata Township, Pa., on Monday, Feb. 16, 1942. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Mary (Wolfhope) Sarver. He worked as a truck driver for 30 years for McQuaide Trucking in Johnstown. He was of the Protestant faith. Lawrence was a social member of Schellsburg VFW Post 4440 and a member of the New Baltimore Sportsmen Club. He is survived by son, Dean, Manns Choice; son, Larry, husband of Kerri Harkleroad, Alum Bank; daughter, Donna Miller, Alum Bank; daughter, Delores Vogt, Aliquippa; son, Scott, husband of Tara Thompson, Indiana; daughter, Tracey Shaffer, Central City; sister, Jean, wife of Leyn Lohr, Schellsburg; sister, Dorothy Frazier, Alum Bank; sister, Margaret Liberty, Manns Choice; and brother, Joseph, Vidor, Texas. Junior is also survived by eight grandchildren: Derek, Ethan, Autumn, Dakota, Kristin, Steven, Ean and McKenzie, and by his companion and fiancee of 10 years, Evelyn (May) McVicker.
