BASSEL - Robert H., Ph.D.

BASSEL - Robert H., Ph.D., 77, of Trotwood, Ohio, native of Johnstown, passed away Feb. 3, 2006, at the Covenant House, Trotwood. Robert was a retired nuclear physicist from the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C., having been involved in research in Oakridge, Tenn., and Stonybrook National Laboratory, Long Island. Dr. Bassel was a member of Beth Jacob Synagogue, Trotwood; the American Physicist Society; and Mensa. A graduate of Pittsburgh University, also doing his graduate work there and alumnus of Oxford University, England. Robert is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Bassel of California; granddaughter, Eva Bassel; brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Selma Bassel of Trotwood; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Bessie Bassel; and sister, Sylvia Kuhr.



GORDON - Darlene Hardison

GORDON - Darlene Hardison, 49, died March 6, 2006, at Lutheran Village Nursing Care Center in Columbus, Ohio. Born June 10, 1956, in Johnstown. Preceded in death by parents. Survived by children, Nehemiah Jr. and Veronica Davis of Johnstown. Also survived by sisters, Joanne L. Peoples and Ivora L. Allen; brothers, Willie J. Hardison Jr., married to the former Linda Toth; and John Hardison Sr., married to the former "Sissy" White, all of Johnstown. Also survived by a host of family and friends. A special thanks to niece and caregiver, Ivora Danna McDay. She worked several jobs but the most recent was at Reese Brothers, Peer Group, and as a CNA. She was a devoted mother. Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Works of Deliverance Fellowship Church, 550 Park Ave., Johnstown, with eulogy by Bishop A. Hardison.



LYDIC - Lauren Alvin Sr.

LYDIC - Lauren Alvin Sr., 86, Bel Air, Md., formerly of Johnstown, died March 10, 2006, in Lorien-Bel Air. Born Sept. 30, 1919, in Johnstown, son of L.A. and Lafey (Robinson) Lydic. Preceded in death by parents and brother, John W. Survived by wife, the former Margaret Jane Hurrel, whom he married Dec. 7, 1941; and son, Lauren A. Lydic Jr., married to the former Jody Dematteo, all of Bel Air. Also survived by three granddaughters, Katie Lynn, Laura Ann and Josephine Jane Lydic. Brother of Dennis, Atlanta, Ga. Member of First Presbyterian Church and Masonic Temple-Athens, Greece and Maryland, and past president/CEO of American Council on Alcoholism, for which he was awarded governors citation. He served as a major in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. Retired senior industrial relations manager from Kennecott Refining Co., Curtis Bay, Md. By request, there will be no public viewing. Memorial service will be announced and held at a later date. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. Arrangements by John Henderson Co. MILLER-KOVACH - Dolores M. "Dolly" "Dee"

MILLER-KOVACH - Dolores M. "Dolly" "Dee," 72, Johnstown, died March 9, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center, Main Campus. Born Nov. 13, 1933. Preceded in death by husband. Survived by caretaker, Carol Jean Pearce. Dolores retired as a registered nurse from the former Mercy Hospital and was a member of Christ the Saviour Cathedral. Friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary Inc., Downtown, 514 Somerset St., where funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Frank P. Miloro officiating. Interment, Benshoff Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carol Jean Pearce in memory of "Dolly."

PALMISANO - Mary M., 71, Northern Cambria, died March 9, 2006, at Miners Medical Center. Born July 1, 1934, in Indiana, the daughter of Ivan and Stella (Birchall) Hill. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Charles N. Palmisano Sr.; and brothers, James Hill Sr. and Charles Hill. Survived by sons, Daniel Palmisano Sr. and Charles N. Palmisano Jr., both of Northern Cambria; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Sister of Theodore Hill, Northern Cambria; Joan Cedor, Johnstown; Geraldine Zaliznock-Darrah, Carrolltown; and Edna Slippy, Johnstown. Friends received from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria, the Rev. Donald Carpenter officiating. Interment, East Ridge Cemetery.

PRITTS - Elizabeth K. "Betty," 90, Berlin, died March 10, 2006. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday.

THOMAS - Sophie, 88, formerly of Sidman, died March 10, 2006, at Maple Winds Care Center, Portage. Born Feb. 17, 1918, in Johnstown, daughter of Mathias and Louisa (Lindic) Turk. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Donald F. Thomas, who died Feb. 3, 1996; brothers, Matthew, Louis and John; and grandson, Robert J. Hudson. Survived by children, Ronald G., married to Joanne Ladika, Sidman; Marilyn L."Sue," wife of William Robert Hudson, Sidman; Betty J., wife of James Patterson, St Michael; John D., married to Norma Groom, Levittown; Robert A., married to Claire Horwath, Warminster; Kenneth R., married to Suzie Dierling, Summerhill; and Melinda, wife of Terry Jerome, St. Michael; 19 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Sister of Frances Cornman, Ebensburg, and Albert Turk, Zanesville, Ohio. She was a member of the Dunlo SNPJ Lodge 274. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, the Rev. Peter A. Foreman.
