BAICH - Edward J., 77, Johnstown, passed peacefully after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. Preceded in death by father, Stephen; mother, Dora (Juran); brothers, Michael, Stephen and Joseph; and sisters, Ann and Mary. Ed was a dedicated and loving husband and father. Survived by wife, Betty Lou; son, Richard (wife, Lisa); grandson, Derek Edward; and sisters, Lucy (Zanetti) and Barbara (Padich); plus numerous nieces and nephews. Korean War veteran, serving two years in Korea in an engineering battalion. Retired postal worker, serving 32 years as a carrier and on special routes, where he received several safe driving awards. American Red Cross blood donor, achieving 11 gallons in donations during his life. Member of the Johnstown Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where he served many years as head elder, head deacon and church treasurer. Viewing will be held Saturday, July 15, at Francis G. (Baronie) Kratzer. Preceded in death by father; father-in-law, Paul Melendez; and grandson, Donald Jay Baronie. Survived by his mother, Johnstown; wife of 29 years, the former Kayla (Melendez); mother-in-law, Margaret (Miller); and these children, John Scott, married to Chrystal (Gray), and their children, Dezaray and John Jr.; Jayan, and fiance, Trevor Arkwright; and Joseph, all of Johnstown. Brother of Pamela, wife of Robert Ressler; Judy, wife of Dave Porter; Paul, James and Robert Kratzer; and Patty, wife of William Cornell, all of Johnstown. Also survived by his fishing buddies, Robert "Bones" McBee, Danny Keiper, Brad Kane, Paul Melendez, Donnie Moore, Paul Kratzer and John McCann. Mr. Baronie was an avid fisherman and hunter and belonged to the Nanty Glo Rod and Gun Club and the Blue Goose Sportsman Club. He was employed by Alexander Mill Services. CASHAW - George Ross, 87, of Johnstown, died June 24, 2006. Born March 19, 1919, son of William and Ola (Mathis) Cashaw. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, Helen (Lewis) Cashaw; and grandson, Daniel Lambing; also four brothers and four sisters. George was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by wife of 32 years, Shirley (Rager); and children, Cornelius "Joe," and wife, Mary (Ellis); Marlene Sprangle; Verna Merriweather; Georgene, and husband, Alexander Tisinger; Benjamin Cashaw and Helen Hardison; Robert Larry Lambing, and wife, Adalee; Terry Lee Lambing, and wife, Beverly; and Celia Deweese; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. George had been an active member of Jefferson Memorial First Born Church of Living God and the head deacon for many years. He was a very accomplished bass guitarist and played with many bands, most recently with the "Wings of Faith." He loved to sing and had a wonderful deep bass voice. George found Jesus as a young man at the Church of God in Christ. George was a retired member of the Local 910 Construction Union. McCONNELL - Lynn, 86, Eveningtide Avenue, Altoona, formerly of Ashville, died June 23, 2006, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. Born May 3, 1920, in Nanty Glo, son of the late Owen and Harriet (Soulsby) McConnell. Preceded in death by wife, the former Dorothy Simanski, on June 29, 2000; grandson, Adam McConnell; brothers, George and Raymond; and sisters, Kathleen "Kitty" Gardner, June Ashburn and Jackie Glass. Survived by children, Larry, Dauphin; Jeffrey, Enola; Linda Trexler, Altoona; and Cindy Waksmunski, Lilly; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Last member of his immediate family. Also survived by special niece, Yvonne Madey of Gallitzin, and numerous other nieces and nephews. World War II Army veteran, where he was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. Worked as a mechanic for Dascanio Garage, Ashville, and then as service manager for Courtesy Motors, Altoona, and retired in 1983. Lynn enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards and bingo. He was an active member of the 12th Armored Division Retirement Association, called the Hell Cats. One of Lynn's most cherished memories was serving under General George S. Patton during World War II and he actually dined with him. Born March 1, 1957, in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Bernard and Louise (Boring) Waterhouse, Seward. She is also survived by sons, Greg Naworol, and fiancee, Tiffany, California; Josh Patrick, and wife, Kourtney, and Keith Patrick, and fiancee, Ronda; and Jacqueline's fiance, Howard Payne, all of West Virginia; brothers, Richard, and wife, Louise Waterhouse, Johnstown; Ronald Waterhouse, and wife, Dana Carr-Waterhouse, Seward; sister, Marie, and husband, Robert Icovona, Texas; several aunts and uncles, including these: Eugene and Patricia Boring and Gladys Shetler, all of New Florence; Arnold and Dolly Boring, Armagh; Terry Stiffey, Bolivar; Janet and Harry McGinnis, Johnstown; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a selfless, loving mother of three boys and dedicated companion. A loyal and intelligent woman who always held true to her word, she was the strength and light to all those she loved. Survived by father and stepmother, the former Kimberly Miller, Richland Township; husband, Donald J., whom she married Nov. 2, 1991; and children, Jacob and Erin, both at home. She was the sister of Steven, married to the former Shannon (Wilson), Richland Township; Michael, married to the former Crystal Downey, York; and Jessica, Richland Township. Also survived by paternal grandparents, Leland and Dorothy McQuaide, Richland Township. She was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. She was a graduate of UPJ with a bachelor's degree in accounting. She was employed by United Parcel Service. Ami will be remembered as a kind and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. SHAHADE - Helen S., 77, formerly of Johnstown, died June 20, 2006, in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Born Aug. 25, 1928, in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Nasser and Mary Genevieve Salem. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond George Shahade. Mrs. Shahade, with her husband, owned and operated Ray's Lounge in Johnstown for many years. She also was an active member and a past president of the Mercy Hospital Women's Auxiliary. In 1992, Mrs. Shahade moved to the Palm Beach area, where she enjoyed a position on the board of the PGA National Golf Club, served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and was a member in the local Garden Club. Mrs. Shahade is survived by five daughters: Nancy Cooper (Robert) of Newport, Ky.; Diane McAndrew (William) of Vienna, Va.; Mary Ann Smego (Douglas) of Greenwich, Conn.; Deborah Courtney (Greg) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and Gail Cari of Chicago, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Sandor of Mesquite, Nev.; and three brothers: Dr. J. George Salem of Johnstown; Alexander Salem of Naples, Fla.; and Dr. John E. Salem of Ligonier, Pa. WILSON - Joseph H.
WILSON - Joseph H., born Sept. 9, 1925, died at his home in Richland on June 22, 2006. Mr. Wilson was born in Orange, N.J., the son of Margaret (Sipes) Wilson and Joseph Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a member of the Johnstown High School graduating class of 1943. He received a degree in engineering from Carnegie Tech, where he also played the position of quarterback on the football team and was a brother of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Mr. Wilson served in the Navy and played baseball for the Navy team. Mr. Wilson was a supporter of art, cultural and educational organizations. He was employed by U.S. Steel, eventually becoming the general manager, and was a founder and owner in Johnstown Corp. He retired in 1988. Mr. Wilson and his wife, Nancy Lou (Boltz) Wilson, who preceded him in death in 2004, enjoyed traveling and collecting. Mr. Wilson was a well-mannered gentleman, who will be remembered as a wonderful, caring grandfather, uncle, father and friend. He is survived by family in Prescott, Ariz., his daughter, Winifred (Dudley) MacIntosh; grandsons, Mac MacIntosh and Shane MacIntosh; granddaughter, Glenn MacIntosh. Mr. Wilson enjoyed the support and companionship of the Pellow family, Tom, Diane and Adamina of Johnstown. By request, there will be no public viewing.
