BERARDINELLI - Yolanda, 83, of Gallitzin, died Oct. 2, 2006, at the Presbyterian Home, Hollidaysburg. Born March 16, 1923, in Colver, the daughter of the late Giovanni and Maria (Perfetti) Maniccia. Preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A., on Oct. 3, 2004; sisters, Victoria Hite and Louise Dellarco; and brothers, Mario, Gus, Dominic, Frindo, Tony and Albert. Surviving are her children, Gail, married to Ed Peduzzi, Murrysville; Raymond, married to Gwen Roland, Gallitzin; Dr. Nelson, married to Nina Sharbaugh, Murrysville and Christina Berardinelli, Altoona; grandchildren, Raymond and Nicholas Berardinelli, Edward and Elizabeth Peduzzi, Nelson and Domenic Berardinelli, and Adam and Maria Berardinelli; two great-granddaughters, Mia and Lilli Berardinelli; sister, Alma Francis of Newberry Park, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Former active PTA member in the Gallitzin High and Penn Cambria schools. Avid reader and enjoyed cooking and crafts. She was very helpful in her neighborhood. Member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Monsignor Bernard Przybocki, celebrant. Committal, St. Patrick Cemetery. Survived by children, Marcia (Phillip) Cavalier, Ebensburg; Michael (Rae Anne Barrett), Dayton; Daniel (Sandee Jacobs), Winter Springs, Fla.; Chuck (Debbie Marks), Springfield, Va.; Elizabeth (Ron) Van Duinen, Melborne, Fla.; Dave (Toni Makosky), Beaverdale; Brian (Justine Dalo), Berwick; and Christine (Dave) Rose, Windber; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. HOFFMAN - Joseph Jr., 76, Hollsopple, died Oct. 1, 2006, at Windber Hospice. Born June 1, 1930, in Jenners, son of Joseph W. -- Thelma (Cubbage) Hoffman. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Leonard; granddaughter, Megan; and wife, the former Donna Lease. Survived by children, Joseph, and wife, the former Denise Sebring, Boswell; Richard, and wife, the former Kathy Lambert, Hollsopple; Laura, wife of Richard Boncoski, Jerome; John, married to the former Cindy Cook, Hollsopple; Willard, married to the former Angie Panici, Hyasota; and David, married to the former Barb Baker, N.C.; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was a brother of Alice Orris, Johnstown; Willard Hoffman, Hollsopple; Ann Lubas, Tire Hill; Kenneth Hoffman, Hollsopple; and Jean McGowan, Steven City, Va. He was a retired coal miner with 45 years' service. Member of UMWA 998, Tire Hill; Jerome American Legion Post 902; and Hollsopple VFW 8861. Served two years in the Army Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his camp in Maryland, a home away from home. Kruper; brothers, James, Kenneth, and Steve; and brother-in-law, Leo B. Sanderson. Survived by wife of 48 years, the former Janice Krug; and daughters, Louise (Donald) Rozsi, Belsano; and Vicky (Edward) Watson, Nanty Glo; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Brother of Paul (Yvonne), South Fork; Veronica Sanderson, Twin Rocks; John (Leona), Johnstown; Marian (Jerry) McGlynn, Twin Rocks; Kathleen (Francis) Schilling, Belsano; and Ronald, Twin Rocks; sisters-in-law, Dolly Bumford and Linda Kruper, both of Ebensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Retired from Florence Mining Co. and Area Agency on Aging. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Donald enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. SHERWOOD - Thomas P. "Pax"
SHERWOOD - Thomas P. "Pax," 92, of Lancaster, passed away Sept. 30, 2006. Born Aug. 27, 1914, in Cannonsburg, son of William Henry Sherwood and Ethel J. (Paxton) Sherwood. Preceded in death by Agnes Davis Sherwood, his wife of 51 years. A graduate of the Penn State University, Class of 1937, Thomas majored in commerce and finance. He was a member of Alpha Chi Rho fraternity and four-time wrestling champion in his weight class. After graduating and working for Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Johnstown, he became a 1st lieutenant and pilot in the Army Air Corps and served in World War II with the 381st Bomb Group, flying B-17 bombers. He was on his 25th combat mission over Schweinfurt, Germany, when he was shot down and became a prisoner of war. For his service, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Service Medal. He became an English teacher after the war and taught in Johnstown, York and Hershey before retiring. A member of Advent Lutheran Church of York and HiFlyers Club, York. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, reader and historian. Thomas founded the 381st Bomb Group (H) Memorial Association, Ridgewell, England, to memorialize fellow airmen who were lost in World War II. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Thomas P. Sherwood II, Bonnie J. Sherwood and John W. Sherwood; and three grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with his pastor, the Rev. Brenda Ritterpusch, officiating. Burial, 1 p.m. Thursday, Pleasantville Cemetery, Pleasantville, with full military honors. Viewing from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. After retiring from the American Red Cross, Washington, she moved to Cape St. Claire, Md., where she lived for the past 28 years.
