HEMING - Homer, 67, Fairfield Township, died Jan. 18, 2007, at Select Specialty Hospital. Born April 1, 1939, in New Florence, son of the late Thomas B. and Laura (Cramer) Heming. Also preceded in death by brothers, Harold "Pickle" and Gary Heming, and sister, Janet Garland. Survived by wife of over 41 years, Mary (Gehlman) Heming; daughter, Beth Ann, wife of Ernest Harr, Martinsville, Va.; and grandsons, Joshua, Ethan and Wyatt Harr. Brother of Helen Rummel and Thomas W., both of New Florence; Lila Mae Kiger, Virginia Beach; Violet Berkhamer, New Florence; Roy, Bolivar; Mary Ellen Brett, North Bend, Wash.; Carl, Johnstown; David, New Florence; Roberta, Blairsville; Donna Brossett, Fortson, Ga.; and Robert, Dover. U.S. Army veteran. Retired employee of Florence Mining Co. Member of UMWA Local 1257. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Pastor Ron Fish. Interment, Bethel Cemetery. Military rites by local veterans organization.
KIBLER - Duane Hillary
KIBLER - Duane Hillary, 77, of 179 Life Style Lane, Anderson, S.C., husband of Viva Kibler, died Jan. 2, 2007, at the Hospice House in Anderson, S.C. Born Dec. 10, 1929, in Hastings, Mr. Kibler was a son of the late Hillary Kibler and the late Marceline Bender Kibler. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Donald Kibler, Melbourne, Fla.; Russell Kibler and Clifford Kibler, Bensalem; daughter, Sally Messmore, Ponte Vedra, Fla.; brother, Paul Kibler, Patton; sister, Louise Miller, Hastings; and nine grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelda Ott, and wife, Sara Kibler, on July 24, 1996. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Jan. 27 at St. Bernard's Parish in Hastings. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. A reception will be held in the parish hall.

McINTYRE - Robert David, 73, Johnstown, passed away Jan. 20, 2007, at Windber Medical Center. Born Jan. 23, 1933, in Johnstown, son of late Robert W. and Evelyn M. (Luther) McIntyre. Preceded in death by stepmother, Rose McIntyre, and two stepsisters. Survived by sisters, Jerry McGinnis, Johnstown; Patricia Kiley, Johnstown; and Alice Pahel, Sebring, Fla.; two stepsisters; a stepbrother; several nieces and nephews; and a special great-nephew, Channing McGinnis. He was a volunteer at Good Sam Drug and Alcohol Program for many years and at Red Cross Disaster Program. Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Henderson-Makuchan Funeral Home, 434 First St., where service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Pastor Ray Streets Jr. Interment, Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to Red Cross Disaster Program.

Born Feb. 6, 1922, in Point Pleasant, N.Y., daughter of the late John and Jessie (Adams) Himmelsbach. Preceded in death by husband, Donald R.; sister, Norma Nettnin; and brother, John. Survived by son, Donald Jr., Williamsport; daughter, Judy Lakes, Cresson; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Rhea Duell, Canandaigua, N.Y. WAC veteran of World War II. Member of Cresson United Methodist Church. Volunteered at Cresson Food Pantry and the art department of Penn Cambria Primary School. Loved to draw and paint. PLEWA - Robert Andrew "Coach," 63, died Jan. 19, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer in Whitehall. Beloved husband of Anna Maria (Kardash) Plewa for 31 years. He is survived by his brothers, John (Barbara) Plewa of Cresson, and Joseph (Betty) Plewa of Cresson; sister, Patty (Dick) Clawson of Cresson; brother-in-law, Steven Slebodnick; mother-in-law, Stefania Kardash of Ambridge; brother-in-law, Boyd (Maria) Kardash of North Potomac, Md.; Aunt Mary Plewa of Harrisburg; Aunt Zelda Carrig of Kenmore, N.Y.; Aunt Pauline Plewa of Gallitzin; Uncle Sonny McMullen of Ashville; and Uncle Robert McMullen of Kenmore, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alda and Andrew Plewa; father-in-law, Michael Kardash; sister, Regina Slebodnick; niece, Tammy Hott; and nephew, Joseph Plewa. He will be sadly missed by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews. Following his service in the U.S. Army, he attended Eastern Kentucky University, where he received a bachelor's degree in teaching. Although most of his career was spent in the Brentwood School District as a physical education and health teacher, he also taught at Hollidaysburg, Bishop McCort and Richmond, Va. With a passion for playing athletics since his youth, he devoted countless hours as a head high school basketball coach at Brentwood, Ambridge and Northgate and as the athletic director at Brentwood for many years. Through his teaching and coaching talents, he touched countless young lives and positively impacted generations of students and athletes throughout his career. His dedication, talent and tireless pursuit of excellence on and off the basketball court led Bob and his players to a multitude of victories and honors, including at least 10 section titles and led Brentwood to the 1989 State Championship Title Game. In addition, he traveled overseas as a basketball coach/delegation leader with the People to People Sports Ambassadors organization. His favorite pastimes included playing cards with his devoted Ambridge friends, fishing with his family, golfing, attending sporting events with his friends from Brentwood and Ambridge, spending time with his dogs, Putsin and Holly, as well as his cat, Chi-Chi, and doting upon his wife, Anna Maria, and his "mother"-in-law, Stefania Kardash, and all his family. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc., (412) 881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood 15527. Visitation also will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the John Syka Funeral Home, 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, with the Parastas at 7 p.m. A service will be conducted at noon Wednesday at the Syka Funeral Home, followed by divine liturgy at 12:30 p.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Church, Ambridge. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SS. STRAYER - Lois J. (Helsel), formerly of Johnstown, passed away at her home in Lewes, Del., on Jan. 13, 2007, with her daughter, Linda, and granddaughter, Jessie, by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer, and daughter, Sharry. Survived by daughters, Cyndi and Connie, and grandchildren, Andrew, Kelly, Sean and Douglas.
