BIXLER - Densel James, 95, Central City, formerly of Johnstown, died Feb. 2, 2007, at his residence. Born Feb. 18, 1911, in Uniontown, son of Samuel and Della (Thomas) Bixler. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Catherine (Blackford); son, Denny; and brother, Omar. Survived by grandson, Jason B. Bixler, and granddaughter, Courtney B. Bixler, both of North Carolina; great-granddaughters, Lucy and Ellie Bixler; sister, Mabel Harris, Washington, D.C.; and second wife, Florence Ela (Egan) Smith Bixler. Also survived by his caregivers and friends, Robert and Ranee Kostick, with whom he lived, and his cat, "Dolly Sue." He retired from Bethlehem Steel after 32 years of service. CASSIDY - Gertrude M., 96, Johnstown, died Feb. 1, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Nov. 13, 1910, in Johnstown, daughter of George and Anna (Yeager) Alberter. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Francis K. Cassidy; daughters, Roseanne Cassidy and Jeanne (Cassidy) Napolitan; son, Thomas Michael; granddaughter, Mary Jean Lynch; grandson, Matthew T. Findley; great-grandson, Adam M. Lynch; brothers, Alphonse, Leo and Norbert; and sisters, Sr. M. Agnella and Sr. M. Norbert. Survived by loving children, Mary, wife of Eugene Lynch, Johnstown; Judy, wife of Joseph Rozich, Johnstown; Trudy, wife of James Hanley, Downers Grove, Ill.; Frances, wife of William Findley, Johnstown; John Paul, married to former Linda Slusser, Johnstown; Robert, married to former Doris Wolfhope, Johnstown; Jo Ellen, wife of Ivan Tipley, Fort Pierce, Fla.; and James D., married to former Marsha Polster, Sewickley. Also survived by sister, Sr. M. Ernestine C.D.P., Pittsburgh; son-in-law, Richard A. Napolitan; and special companions, Kathy Boyts and Victoria Hoover. Mrs. Cassidy, a.k.a. Mother Gert to all who knew and loved her, was the grandmother of 38 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 46. Member of Immaculate Conception Altar and Rosary Society, where she was actively involved sharing her handmade items for sale at church functions up until the age of 90. Proud member of TOPS Pa. 388, Johnstown, where she was a mother figure and inspiration to all. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the Immaculate Conception Church. CLAWSON - Donald E. Sr., Cresson, died Feb. 1, 2007, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born in Bolivar, son of the late Daniel and Eugenia (Kerchinsky) Clawson. Preceded in death by son, Donald E. Jr.; brother, John; and mother-in-law, Mary Wisen. Survived by wife, the former Rose Marie Wisen, whom he married July 7, 1963; daughters, Diane Harris (Duane), and Tammy Mikolajczyk (Michael), both of Cresson; and grandchildren, Kaitlin and Cassidy Harris and Nikolas and Mikayla Mikolajczyk. Also survived by daughter-in-law, Lisa Clawson, Altoona, and sisters-in-law, Bertha Ball, and Ann Murtiff, both of Cresson, and Joann Stewart, Portage. U.S. Air Force veteran of Korean War. Retired from BethEnergy Mines, Ebensburg. Member of St. Aloysius Church, Cresson; UMWA; NRA; Gallitzin Sportsmen's Club; other local sportsmen groups; Italian Club, Cresson; and the American Legion. Had a strong love for his family, and his buddy "Eight Ball," his beloved black pomeranian. Don also loved hunting, fishing, reloading shells and creating knives. EASH - Thelma Blough, 82, Cedar Haven Nursing Home, Lebanon, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, at the home. She was the wife of Merle L. Eash Sr., who resided at Cedar Haven Nursing Home with her. They were married Nov. 22, 1950, just celebrating 56 years together. She was born in Johnstown on June 24, 1924, to Ernest and Edna Rummel Blough. Thelma retired from the Milton Hershey School working 20 years as a secretary and at the Founders Hall in the food service department. She was a member at the Gravel Hill United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women's Group. In addition to her husband, Merle, she is survived by her children, George A. Eash, and wife, Deb, Fredericksburg; Merle Eash Jr., and wife, Tammy, Annville; Donald G. Eash, and wife, Betsy, Downingtown; Joyce E. Brightbill, and her husband, Gary, Fredericksburg, Va.; and Judy M. Hair, and her husband, Terry, Beaverdam, Va.; 30 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Pugh, Tire Hill; and a brother, Ernest Ray Blough Jr., Bedford. Two sisters, Helen Constable and Kathryn Blough, precede her in death. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rothermel Funeral Home Inc., 25 W. FREEMAN - Thomasine, 94, Patton, died Feb. 1, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. She was born Nov. 8, 1912, in Calabria, Italy, the daughter of Angelo and Bernadine (Artuso) Yannitelli. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Scott B. Freeman, on July 24, 1986; sons, Gerald and Eugene Freeman; brothers, Joseph and Frank Yannitelli; and sisters, Rose Yannitelli, Lucy Bernard and Mary Pompa. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Patricia Freeman, Patton; grandchildren, Robert Freeman; Laurie Ford, and her husband, Dave; Brianna Freeman; and Jessica Balliet, and her husband, Ryan; and great-grandchildren, Brian, Eric and Adam Ford and Gabrielle and Matthias Balliet. She also is survived by her brother, Samuel Yannitelli, Northfield, Ohio; sisters, Catherine Mangold, Cresson; Emily Petrakis, Pacifica, Calif.; and Pauline Lacey, Willoughby, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Del Rose Yannitelli, Patton, and Dolly Skebeck, Coalport; brother-in-law, Tony Bernard, Geneva, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Thomasine arrived in the U.S. at Ellis Island on Dec. 24, 1919, at the age of 7. She was a loving and caring mother-in-law, nunny and a wonderful friend. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church and the Patton Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling. SHAFFER - Ruth M. "Boots" McPoland, 89, Indiana, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Indiana Regional Medical Center. A daughter of Edward R. and Gertrude Ondrizek McPoland, she was born on April 16, 1917, in Indiana County near Strongstown. Mrs. Shaffer was a homemaker. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She is survived by her husband, William C. Shaffer, whom she married in 1941; two sons, William Jr., and wife, Barbara, Indiana, and James, Wilmington, Del.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Turko, Indiana, and Joanne McKotch, Ebensburg; a brother, Paul Stephens, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepfather, Albin Stephens; a brother, Harold Stephens; two stepsisters; and two stepbrothers.
