Preceded in death by parents; first husband, Julius Knurek; sister, Mary Sabol; and brother, John DeFazio. Survived by spouse, John L. Best, Menifee; daughter, Mary Ann Knurek, Menifee; and brother, Santo DeFazio, California. Former member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Turners and Loyal Order of Moose. CRAWFORD - George Glen
CRAWFORD - George Glen, 84, of Richland Township, passed away on March 16, 2007, at Richland Woods Assisted Living. He was born on Aug. 27, 1922, in Johnstown, son of the late George and Mabel (Baumgardner) Crawford. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Shirley (Chase) Crawford; children, Linda Crawford, wife of Boyd Jarrell, San Francisco, Calif.; Kathy, wife of Sam Bohn, Etters, Pa.; Gary, married to the former Pam Pavlick, Richland; and Diane Crawford, Johnstown; grandchildren, Ryan and Gary Bohn and Tyler and Derek Crawford; sisters, Ethel Snavely, Dover, Del., and Dorothy Reed, Beaver, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Glen was a 1940 graduate of Richland High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He graduated in 1946 with a degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Glen then graduated in 1951 from the University of Pittsburgh, where he received a masters degree in education. He taught at both Dale High School from 1946-1956 and Ferndale High School from 1956-1964. Glen then became the principal at both Everett High School from 1964-1969 and Ferndale High School from 1969-1979. After retiring from public schools in 1979, he taught at Bishop McCort High School from 1980-1990. He was a member and former organist at Bethany United Methodist Church. Glen had a great sarcastic sense of humor and will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, dad, grandfather and friend. The Crawford family would like to thank Richland Woods staff, Aseracare Hospice staff and Doctor Maharajh for the excellent care they provided for Glen. Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until time of service at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, with the Rev. Jeff Vanderhoff officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. GENNETT - Rose L., 88, resident of the Rose of Sharon, St. Michael, Pa., formerly of Richland Township, went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Born on July 22, 1918, in Beaverdale, daughter of Catino and Grace (Pilla) Speranza. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; daughters, Phyllis Smith and Loretta Burneff; grandson, Christopher Regula; granddaughter, Karen Jones; brothers, Lewis and Samuel; and sister, Angeline LoGrasso. Survived by her loving children, Grace Heidingsfelder, New Cumberland, Pa.; Lillian Crusco, Sidman; George M. Gennett, Johnstown; Carolyn A. Demarco, Sidman; and Angela Krens, Fayetteville, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was a devoted member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She enjoyed crafts and liked crocheting. Rose will be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Committal will be held at Grandview Cemetery.

HUNCHARIK - James, 59, of Johnstown and a longtime resident of the Harrisburg area, died March 16, 2007, at Laurel Wood Care Center. Born Sept. 2, 1947, son of the late James and Anna (Molchan) Huncharik. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sherial (Boring), of Johnstown; daughters, Leanne, and husband, David Czyrnik, Greensburg, and Lisa Sukenik; grandchildren, Chelsie and Brandon Maschak, all of Johnstown; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A U.S. Army 1st lieutenant during the Vietnam era. A 1971 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He was a Pennsylvania State employee as a correction counselor at the Camp Hill facility. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Moskal Funeral Home, West End, where Pastor Peter Helmers will hold funeral service at 1 p.m. Monday. JONES - George W.W. Sr., 93, Laurel View Village, formerly of Ferndale, died March 15, 2007, at his residence. Born Dec. 27, 1913, in Johnstown, son of Dalvin T. and Annie (Williams) Jones. Preceded in death by parents and wife, F. Virginia (Replogle). Survived by sons, George W.W. Jr., married to the former Lani Shutt, Dallastown, Pa., and Robert R., married to the former Dianne Ellerman, Medina, Ohio; grandchildren, Kimberly Jones and Pamela Daskalakis, and Todd Jones and Jennifer Harley; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Joshua Jones and Anastasia Daskalakis. Member of Franklin Street United Methodist Church, where he was a head usher, served on the finance committee, treasurer, trustee and the administrative boards. A Johnstown High School and Penn State University graduate. A 50-year member of Johnstown Lodge F--AM and a 38-year member of Elks. Served as a secretary for Ferndale Area School Board and treasurer for Ferndale Borough for a number of years. He was a clerk of many capacities before retiring as the director of finance at the U.S. post office in Johnstown. MILLER - Lena M., 86, Lorain, Ohio, formerly of Johnstown, died March 15, 2007, in Lorain. Born July 24, 1920, in Johnstown, daughter of the late George and Gertrude (Bimeal) Kohler. Also preceded in death by her husband, Jay H. Miller, in 1996; granddaughter, Christina Kress; sisters, Mildred Erlinger and Geraldine Kohler; and brothers, George Kohler, Harold Kohler and Bernard Settlemyer. Survived by daughter, Ruthie, married to Edward Kress, Panama City, Fla.; son, Jay Miller, with whom she lived in Lorain; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Gertrude Kohler, Irwin, and Joan Kohler and Ruth Rively, both of Johnstown. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Lorain, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society. SACERINO - John E., 69, Little River, S.C., passed away unexpectedly Jan. 26, 2007, at McCloude Regional Hospital, Florence, S.C. Born Feb. 10, 1937, in Johnstown, son of James V. and Mary M. (Homola) Sacerino. Preceded in death by father; brother, Larry Allen; and sister, Frances P. Sacerino. Survived by mother, Mary Sacerino; daughter, Sicily, married to Jose Brizyella; and grandchildren, Maryanna, Abigael and Justin, all of Arizona. Brother of Lois, married to August Sottile; James, married to Linda Clark; Dennis Dane; and David Sacerino, all of Johnstown. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Gina, A.J. III, Tyonna, Lynette, David and Ashley; and great-niece, Leanna. John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a longtime owner and operator of the London Hair and Nail Company in Calabash, N.C., and Clippers Inc. in Little River, S.C., where John had many loving friends. A memorial service will be held in late summer.

SHAFFER - Patricia H., 57, Johnstown, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on March 14, 2007, at Windber Hospice. Born Sept. 15, 1949, in Pittsburgh, daughter of Tom Harder, Johnstown, and the late Bettiemae (Naquin) Harder. She also was preceded in death by infant twin nephews, Leroy and Tom Harder. Survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Larry P. Shaffer; son, Thomas J. Shaffer, married to Karen (Koretzky), Harrisburg; and daughter, Katherine S. Shaffer, Johnstown. Also survived by brother, Brent Harder, married to Ann (Leffler), Pittsburgh; sister, Barbara H., married to William Pulliam, Johnstown; and nieces and nephews, Brandi and Shane Harder, Pittsburgh, and Zachary Gates and Rachelmae Pulliam, Johnstown. Mrs. Shaffer was a graduate of Richland Township High School and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. She was last employed at Westmont Hilltop School District. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. March 24, 2007. Memorial contributions may be made to Windber Hospice. SMITH - Sister Teresa Clare, CSJ, 91, died Friday, March 16, 2007, in Villa St. Joseph, Baden, Pa., in the 76th year of her religious life as a Sister of St. Joseph of Baden. The daughter of the late James and Katherine McCauley Smith, Sister Teresa Clare entered the congregation from St. Brigid Parish in Lilly. An educator for more than 60 years, Sister Teresa Clare's ministry was rooted largely in the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese, including St. Brigid School in Lilly from 1961-67 and St. Patrick School in Johnstown, where she served as music teacher from 1983-97. Sister also taught at Holy Rosary, Nativity and Annunciation schools in Pittsburgh. Sister retired to the Motherhouse in 1997. Extending her faith and the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph was always important to Sister Teresa Clare. Through her gifts of gentleness, humor and joy of spirit, she touched the lives of her students and families. Sister is survived by several cousins and 242 Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden. Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow in the Sisters' Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds.
